I am new to the whole Apple business... And highly annoyed by how closed the platform is, but as far as tablets go, you can't beat it.

That been said. How bad is the SA app store? I know there are no games, which is not really an issue, since I have never found a game on phone or tablet that kept me busy for longer than 5 minutes. I don't want to create a US account just to have access to things I do not need or want. Is there anything else that is not available on the SA app store?

I think that if we support the app store in SA we will see more content sooner rather than later....

It's not actually Apple's fault. Individual developers, when they submit their app, decide if they want to make it available worldwide or not. Sometimes they can't. Legislation in their home country may not allow them, for example to make an app for a bank in their country available anywhere else. Other times, perhaps they just don't want to be bothered giving support to people emailing them questions in foreign languages. It seems mostly the US-based developers who are happy to serve their local market only, but that is just my impression.

Yes, I occasionally come across something that is not available here. 9 times out of 10, though, a little digging will produce an app that is functionally identical and that IS available. Guess who gets my money?

But if there's something you really want that's not available here, shoot off a polite email to the developers asking them if they have any plans to distribute their app on the SA store.

Thanks for the reply :)

The only thing I found that is not available in SA that I really want (not even for myself) was a Disney app. I dropped them an email. I am quiet interested to see what the outcome will be :)
