SA BF3 Servers - Vanilla Only?

So I've been watching some YouTube BF3 videos to try and improve my game (right now I'm rated somewhere between Useless and Sucky). A number of them show gameplay on customized servers. For example: Metro without tubes and RPG's or Handguns/Knife only. Looks quite cool.
How come have I never seen stuff like that on local servers? They only ever seem to run vanilla Conquest with the odd Rush/TDM.
 
i would vote for all classes to be available , yet pistols + knives + with all abilities + secondary equipment (c4, med paks etc) now that will be interesting. NO primary wpn :)
 
it is a separate script I think

it does look like some guys will be testing these things, but for now all server owners just run normal with the 'added' settings changed

there is ie a discussion on SGS forums about removing explosives on maps like Metro 1K ticket 64 player, cause atm it is just total spammage

Are these ranked servers? I know back in BF2 days it was considered "stat padding" servers when they made rules saying pistols/knives only ... esp considering how difficult it was back then getting your expert medal for pistolling.

Good question... I don't know. They were gameplay videos, so I couldn't tell. Personally, I'd play even if they're not ranked if just for a change of scenery.
 
It is against the EA ROE for RANKED servers to limit what weapons/classes players may use (except for the built-in "no vehicles" option). Servers can lose their ranked status if they do this.
On unranked anything goes.
