I thought this was going to be some sort of anti-hail device for rooftop panels, specifically catering to the SA market.

...until I re-read the title properly of course.

What are the references to UJ and Bosch about, how do those relate to this article? It seems like we're expecting to read between the lines.

This is an interesting idea, in the same way I use those little solar power banks and leave them to charge in the window sill sometimes, but I think the efficiency must be incredibly bad. From a shading perspective at least, there's so much to cast partial shadows onto the panels, from burgler bars (I guess you could mount them on the sun side of the burgler bars, but that's perhaps a different layout to my current window curtains), to the frames and handles for opening the windows, etc., not to mention how dirty my windows are (yes, yes, i should clean them). Would be interested to see her actual numbers, like xW of panels and yWh of average energy generated per day.

How I image this going down at home:

Husband: Hey wife, there's this cool new blinds being developed. We can power our router during loadshedding with it.
Wife: That sounds pretty great.
Husband: I'm thinking of installing it in a couple of our windows.
Wife: DON'T YOU DARE CHANGE OUR COLOR SCEHEME. THESE COLORS WERE HAND PICKED BY YOUR MOTHER IN LAW. DON'T TOUCH THE BLINDS

R5000 per window.

R5000 per window.
That's quite pricey. I did about 7 windows of various sizes last year, and it came in to just below 20k if I remember correctly. This means probably about 35k for the same thing, taking the average window.

At 15k more, just buy one of those camping psus with one solar panel on.
