SA e-toll costs lower than abroad

12% of my income on a road already paid for! SCAM!

To even be feasible the price will go up very soon...........

All the countries being compared have different tax rates & different portions of the budget being allocated to road infrastructure. The tolls are layered on top of this. You'd have to compare the cumulative total of those.

As for those direct currency translations...even my little sister understands that a ZAR goes further in some countries than others. Purchasing power differs. Now if my little sister understands that then why am I reading info from a "financial services specialists firm" that has yet to grasp this?

I appreciate companies creating nice infographics...inferior info gets shot down though.

Also...shame on mybb/BT for publishing an article at the 11th hour that is clearly calculated to cause an uproar (and not even an uproar conducive to stopping etolls).

SA e-toll costs lower than abroad

Direct Axis, the financial services specialists firm, says that South Africa has the lowest e-toll cost if compared to other countries like the US, Australia and the UK.

WTF has Direct Axis got to do with the toll roads... Oh wait, people will now have to take up one of their loans to survive since their budgets will be adversely affected by this

Well those are 1st world nations and we are a 3rd world nation

US, Australia and the UK.

Nice comparison. That is like saying that Icleand has a higher percentage of police shootings compared to South Africa.
Iceland's first-ever police shooting leaves one dead

A man has been shot dead in Iceland's first-ever armed police operation, officials said on Monday.

With a population of only 322,000 and one of the lowest crime rates in the world, police rarely draw their weapons in the island nation.

The incident was "without precedent" in Iceland's history, national police chief Haraldur Johannessen told a press conference in Reykjavik.

The victim, a man in his late 50s, fired a shotgun several times in his apartment in the early hours of Monday morning, forcing police to evacuate residents of the building in east Reykjavik.

When they failed to make contact with him the police then fired gas canisters through his windows in an attempt to immobilise him.

"That did not work and the man started shooting out of the windows of the apartment," said Reykjavik police chief Stefan Eiriksson.

A police Swat team then entered the apartment.

One officer was hit in the helmet and the other on a shield but neither were injured.

When they returned fire the man was fatally injured and later died in hospital.

"The police regrets this incident and wishes to extend its condolences to the man's family," said national police chief Johannessen.

An investigation has been opened to determine why the victim began shooting and whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Based on the same distance, motorists driving on UK’s M6 would have to pay R165 per trip. In the US and Australia, the same daily trip would cost motorists R146 and R258 respectively – significantly more than in South Africa, Direct Axis said.

Wtf? Whomever wrote this piece of **** statement is fscking brain dead.

How do you want to compare the costs directly?!

If it was measured in % of avg monthly income that would be a much better statistic.

More pulling a beanie over the eyes of the sheep.

Everybody on this forum is now missing the point of this article. Those braindead left behinds now in charge of the SA Government and Sanral is actually saying the following:

"Look, our e-tolls are too cheap. Other countries pay more, so we have room for fee increases to bring our system up to par with international standards. Expect increases soon!"

Too true... they did the same thing with property rates and taxes. I got shafted with that one, they're not going to get me a second time.

They do as a % of daily income

Compares us to other countries when they want more tax, cries about being seperate and 'African' for everything else.

So what if it is cheaper. It is still a huge extra burden that is not wanted by anybody, except the ANC government.

Its funny how they now trying to make e-Tolls look like a pretty thing, when indeed it isn't.

I would like to see how we stack up against other 3rd world countries (if there are any) that have this e-Toll system.

Gotta love the headlines
