Ive also heard rumours of the so called "Night of the Long Knives", we'll have to wait and see. As far as I'm concerened as soon as there is any political intereference with the press or the freedom of speech then you know that the sh*t is truly about to hit the fan.
One of the greatest weapons the old apartheid government had was the control and censorship of all information entering and leaving these shores thus creating a false illusion of this country.
And why do you think Mugabe cracked down so hard on the press in Zim.

From the pre-2009 election messages I got the impression that all non-ANC voters MUST vote to prevent the 2/3rds majority. I didn't realize they already had it. So it was more a case of take way the 2/3rds than prevent it. Semantics I suppose. I According to Wiki they got 69.69% in 2004 and 65.90% in 2009. Interesting how the message got through to me.

This means though that the DA was saying stop Zuma's team from getting 2/3rds as because they will act differently to the previous ANC leaders.
That's just campaigning. Having two thirds was more symbolic than anything else, but it was important for them to lose a little to demonstrate that perhaps they don't have the lock on power they thought they had. The problem with political parties is that when they think their position is unassailable they have little incentive to do any work. I very much doubt the DA would not become equally fat and corrupt in a similar position. We only have to look at other countries to see that no matter where you go the politicians are on the whole corrupt and power mad. All that varies is the degree of corruption.

Farmers are particularly vulnerable to attacks due to isolation and poor security in the rural areas - that is all.
It also seems to me that the farmer was a symbol of Afrikaner Nationalism.

There was caller on 702/567 about a week ago. She identified herself as being in her mid 30's and black. She was extremely well spoken and mentioned being a professional of some kind. She said that even though she didn't want vote for them to she felt morally obliged to vote ANC. She listed a whole string of things she felt they were doing wrong but said she'd still vote for them because of the struggle. It was the first time I'd heard that kind of thinking in SA. Reminded me of Zim.
Wasn't the problem in Zimbabwe exactly that people were moving away from supporting the ruling party? Now that could happen here, and historically countries have tended to go through major upheavals before they settle down. Coming back to voting, what possessed people to keep voting for the NP? Essentially voting is seldom done rationally after carefully considering all the facts. There is too much information and the world is too complex to truly choose the right party. You have the further problem that you may agree with some policies of each party and disagree with others. Sometimes voting even has to be based purely on bringing balance and not any particular issues.

Depends on the level of interference. They shouldn't interfere at all, but it would hardly be unique to Africa for politicians to pass or try to pass laws that control what people are allowed to say. See stupid so-called anti-terror laws in some countries.

And where do these rumours come from? Somebody overheard secret top-level plans? Or merely someone expressing their paranoid delusions of persecution?

I am not sure the ANC will get a 2/3 anytime soon.
ANC != SWAPO

Someone sent sms just now drawing similarity between us having the world cup and Germany having the olympics in 1930's. Could this be the start of our own version of Nazi German and the whites being the Jews of that time?
Don't shoot the messenger I am repeating what was said on 702

Yes but most are racists who would like nothing more then to kill off all the white people. Remember the shoot the boer song that is "not hate speech"?
You don't need to be educated for genocide, all you need is a lot of barbarians. Look at all the Genocide in Africa, education had nohing to do with it.
