SA has even bigger problems than Eskom - mining experts

This is very serious, mines losing money means closures, over and above the revenue loss (13 billion USD p.a.) that means over half a million mine workers without jobs, so more Marikana x 1000 :(
They anyways being taken over by the mafia. Same with the construction industry raped by the construction mafia. Criminals are everywhere and it is just growing.

The rail load gets shifted to the roads, resulting in the roads deteriorating much faster than they should. Look at the number of coal trucks on the N4 or on the sheer number of trucks on the N3. Most of that load can (and should) be shifted back to railways, which are much better suited for heavy loads than the tar roads are.

Cannot have public transport while the taxi mafia is operating.

Our pathetic old rail system is of no use to anyone, buses are burned and stoned.

It is not meant for this country of peasants

Rail is an "expense" for the ANC, in that it's a service they need to provide as part of being a "government". Road freight is income for them all the way. Tendas, but also VAT on truck and trailer sales (and resales ad infinitum), tyres, diesel, services, parts, insurance, repairs etc.

Peasants are often hard working. You probably meant something else. Like barbarians.

Time to outsource our government.
Only to be looted by someone else. Don't think the private sector is beyond reproach. Who do you think are the beneficiaries of corruption.

Sell the electric locomotives and run coal locomotives - they are hauling their own fuel after all.
Fix, upgrade and expand the non-electric railway tracks.
Make these corridors national key points.
Implement a shoot on sight policy.

All easy things to do if we have a real government. The problem is we don't have real voters.

At the moment high commodity prices are masking the situation as many miners still see enough margin to be able to ship via road. If prices start coming down then they'll have a tough decision to make as they won't be able to profitably get their product to port at which point mines will likely close and a huge source of tax revenue will dry up.

Try explain that to this government.

Sure, the biggest problem for mining might be transnet

But the number one question for everyone else should be. How is our water and sanitization systems doing? Without electricity I'm guessing not all that wonderful.

Don't worry, water is doing fine, great actually.
We now literally have the ANC kool aid flowing from the taps.

As for sewage, I call it the golden k@k.
At R550 per month for sewage fees in our complex, each time I take a dump in the morning and flush it's about half the price of a packet of smokes.... so surely there must be something special about it.
