SA journo detained in NZ

Given the nature of the comments quoted, it's probable that he matched a specific profile, and was in the wrong part of town.

Black africans are incredibly rare even in Auckland, it would be inane to suggest that any police would target them as a group.

lolz. he matched the description "dark skin, brown eyes, dark curly hair".

Like most posts have mentioned already, NZ has treated that poor black dude the same way we would treat someone from Ghana and accuse him of being a Nigerian and dealing in drugs. If he's innocent his name will be cleared, and he must sue them :D

Me thinks countries like NZ and Oz and other economically successful countries such as the ones in Scandinavia are still backwards when it comes to being exposed to other race groups, especially black. Me thinks that a country that is racially integrated and also economically successful is a civilised country, like the USA and Dominican Republic. NZ, Oz and the Scandinavian countries will have to deal with an influx of immigrants and asylum seekers. We saw what happened in Norway a few weeks ago, they are not tolerant of other race groups and that will cause social problems in those countries. There's no way, in this world of globalization, that countries will stay and be one race. Racial integration will inevitably occur.

I think you're talking out your arse.

NZ is substantially more multicultural, tolerant and integrated than south Africa will ever be.

I dont see how this article has anything to do with race? I read the NZ report on this one and its simply a case of they got the wrong guy. Just because he is black its now a racial issue. If he was a white south african this story would probably not have made the news!

Proof that there is no such thing as a black racist. Only whites can be racist.

Two mysterious "Taupo residents" offering generic comments, and no suggestion they were actually present.

The police are not going to harass somebody so obviously foreign without good cause (especially now)

I suspect someone fingered him to the police because of his African attitude.

It strikes me as a little strange that someone would be arrested on the word of a single person.

Damn pigs and their pig factory. Even their own residents know what they are doing is clearly unfair treatment. If I was the reporter id sue them for a cool $20,000 USD.
I'm sure some of our own residents can say the same about their local men/woman in blue.

So Whites are racists thanx to Verwoerd and ET
Blacks are Drug Dealers thanx to Nigerians.
Muslims are treated diffrently on airports thanx to Bin Laden.

It does not make it right. It's just how things are. Until I do not know when.
Still a scary thing to be taken to a police station in a foreign country.

New Zealand has a low crime rate for a reason -unfortunately such great efficiency increases the odds of mistakes being made.
