I think that New Zealands policing policies are over zealous not that the New Zealand police were over zealous.

A member of the public phones in to report a suspected crime with a description of the perp.
The police actually pitch up and take in for questioning someone fitting the description of the suspect
They do this in a civilized manner without any undue abuse of the suspect
After questioning and finding no evidence of said crime, the suspect is released

You don't see how that's open to abuse? To fcck up someones evening all you need to do is phone the cops and report your suspicion of a crime perpetrated by someone fitting their description. There needn't even have been an actual crime.

But, you're entitled to yearn for a nanny state so let's not get into it. I'm sure you wouldn't mind your evening out interrupted by being taken off by the police at all.
