SA life expectancy declines

Quite the sensationalist headline.
Our low point was around 2005 and average life expectancy was 51.5 years (Which is when the effects from HIV/AIDS were most prfound)
Our average life expectancy has increased quite well since then.
Our average life expectancy in 2012 was 56.1, so the latest data here (63 and 57.7) actually shows a good continuation of this trend.

Quite sensationalist

Just sucks so much.

Honestly if it wasn't for the crime I'd be home tomorrow.

Dont live in a dodgy area and there is basically no crime.
I've recently taken down my walls. I walk around my neighbourhood at night without the slightest hint of crime

Must be lucky you.

I was doing alot of research into that recently and while most crime does take place in poor neighborhoods sure... still plenty to go around, I was from a pretty decent part of Cape Town and Durban, still got family there , one has been hijacked, another broken into twice in the last 2 years.

And my biggest issue is the sheer brutality in alot of cases if you're unlucky enough to get caught up in it.

My family was lucky, others not so much.

Biggest bull**** spewed here on MyBBso far.

Crime is all over. I live in an upmarket area.

Although we do not have gangsters running around, or druggies pushing stock, we do have at least 1-3 house robberies a month. We have about 3-10 burglaries a month. The house robberies all are violent with people assaulted and tortured until money is presented.

No matter where you live in SA, you are at risk. I am not saying other countries are safer, but if you should live in, say, Texas in the USA, you are more likely to never be victim of a house robbery and probably will be lucky if you are burgled in the next 1-5 decades.

And, oh yes, as per the article, it was expected that life expectancy would have declined from 1990. I highly doubt that the current government, or future ones, will ever be in a position to plan for this and provide to the nation. Just look at all other African countries.

Sounds like you live in a pretty dodgy neighborhood

no **** sherlock? It's mostly due to people being crime victims no doubt. that, and people eating themselves to death.

Total horse manure.

JStrike, you're coming across as a bit of an elitist here. Enjoying that currently advantaged status I take it? ;) Accept nothing less than the best of the best and you won't experience these problems, you horrendous plebs! Where do you live? The Nkandla compound?!
