Its hard not to comment about what you have said without contributing towards responses that tipp this thread more towards race then about the level of service.

But, cos blacks outnumber the other races by atleast 10 to 1, and cos *** service is the norm, chances of you getting *** service from a black person are so much higher, so, duh, stop being so sensitive and face the facts.

This is dangerous. While you dont purpot to be specifically superior to blacks merely because you are not (an assumption), I would not call you a racist.

But surely this is racial profiling?

I think racial profiling such as the one you have made does not help the country. What it does is help perpetuate the notion that blacks are indeed inferior purely because they are black.

You do redeem yourself though when you offer a solution to the level of service we are all subjected to :-

The obvious way to improve South Africa's lot is for the majority to provide better service.

I don't think that he was racial profiling. I think that what he was saying was just a general statistic based on a definable attribute of a person.

I believe that he was saying (and I think that you may have missunderstood this) that there are (say) 10 times as many blacks in ZA than whites. Therefore your chances of receiving bad service from a black person is 10 times higher given that you will encounter 10 times more black people when you're dealing with anyone in the service industry.

If you defined short as anybody under 1.85 metres in height then you could also say that there are 10 times as many short people in ZA than tall people and apply the same logic that you will receive worse service from short people because there are more of them.

If you receive bad service from half the people that you deal with each day and you have 20 dealings a day and 18 of those people are black and 2 of them are white then you will have bad service from 9 black people and 1 white person. You could substitute tall/short for black/white in the previous sentance and you will see that it's not a racial profiling issue.

Of course, it is possible that I have missunderstood both of you and if so I apologise for butting in and wasting your time.

Its quite refreshing to read threads like this. Having lived in Europe for many years i got irritated by the tiptoeing and scirting round the issues whenever race is mentioned. At least people speak their minds here.
Personally, when i hear a racist or bigotted comment, distasteful as it may seem at the time, i have a positive take on the issue. What could be positive about it?
Well, in South Africa, if you're in competition with someone who has racist tendencies, whether you're trying to win a contract, or simply if you've applied for a job, the racist biggott has put him/herself at a serious disadvantage. Their views eventually come out, as we see here from time to time, and they will find less opportunity to progress. All this means less competition for me, which is great.
