SA must reduce public holidays

They should introduce a system where everybody gets 4 public holiday leave days and can decided which of 13 days they can use it for, that way they could introduce some more senseless dates.
 
As a contractor these off days in between are almost literally a life saver. (Hourly contracts still nail you but fixed rate contracts are awesome). Without them I'd probably end up never getting a short break apart from the one week hiatus and slow-motion crap at the end of the year.
And as prices go up and our money means less-and-less I have no other choice but to tell the government to f-themselves.

Get the ANC out of my pocket and my rights, stop pissing and moaning about racism and actually do something to make the lives of EVERYONE better...actually .. that might be asking too much... you don't even have to do something government, just **** off and give someone else a chance.
 
Lollies, you can take away all the public holidays it won't make 1 iota's difference, strikes will still ruin our economy way faster.

I see yet another strike on the horizon from our work(cough)force should anyone push ahead with this lunacy.

Exactly, it's like obsessing over the different color shades of a toddler's **** when you don't even have the money to feed him.
 
people already have to work harder and longer because of governments stupid decisions. here are the calculations for how much more people have to work just to pay for etolls.

Here is an idea that isn't any more stupid than some.

Turn off the electricity on the public holidays and fix the power stations. Other government employees can go sweep streets and pick up litter.
 
Leave my damn holidays alone. Why don't they do actual work instead of sitting on stupid committees thinking of curtailing the few luxuries us workers have? Dummies.

If it were up to business we would have no holidays and a 7 day working week.

Life is not just about productivity.

Holidays mentioned for the cut are Day of Reconciliation ( Day of the Vow ) and Boxing Day.

They're being a bit dishonest about China. Besides the fact that China has lethal working conditions they also have more than four public holidays.

The answer to interrupting the week with public holidays is to always ensure they fall on a Monday or Friday.

It is about productivity, but this doesn't work the way some people seem to think. Productivity doesn't come from simply driving people to work as long as possible. Time off from things like public holidays improve productivity.

It is not unusual for holidays to be shifted. Some countries even shift Saturday public holidays to Monday. South Africa should do the same.

The only people affected by you guys taking away public holidays, is the honest worker.
First work on week long or even month long strikes and people who abuse sick leave or this will negatively affect the mood towards honest and great workers.
 
Totally disagree, that has no bearing on the economy as people still spend on public holidays. In addition, give people a break.
 
Hey, each working person in this country already carries a bunch of no-can-do freeloaders in the name of socialism .. leave our public holidays alone we need the rest!
 
There might be a problem here.

If there are less public holidays, people will need to work more, so those belonging to unions will demand more money, leading to more strikes, and SA will therefore have less productive days.

At the end, less public holidays will lead to more strike.
