SA online shopping takes a step backwards

Lately I've noticed that some items are cheaper at physical stores by more than delivery charges (excl. delivery chargers) which seems odd. A few years ago it was always cheaper online but nowadays its not always the case.

The stores(me) usually have to be cheaper to be more competitive.

I've also noticed things are getting more expensive online, and its just companies trying to cash in on this "online shopping" concept.. its bollocks.

Even places like TakeAlot and Kalahari are no longer always cheaper than the brick and mortars like they used to be.

Online shopping is about the convenience. Can always get something cheaper in stores if you search.

What's so convenient about having to wait two weeks to get your stuff when I can go to a shop and get it today?

I very seldom buy online but I do a lot of window shopping online (now that's more convenient).

Not to mention delivery times have taken a nose dive with the last post office strike, and never recovered. Unless of course you choose the courier option. But then of course, you have to deal with couriers..

I can agree with that but plenty of people see it differently. It's also easier to find stuff online than going from shop to shop.

I've had same day online deliveries before so not sure where you shop. Online shopping is more convenient as it gets delivered without me having to get in my car.

Thats the thing, Online shopping is meant to be more convenient, and cheaper (at least in my books)... but lately neither of those are applying to some of the things I want to buy.

In a prefect world you would have the time to compare all shops but you don't always in reality.

If a price is unreasonable then investigate further.

Well thats the beauty of large chainstores these days.. some of them have online brochures with stock numbers AND/OR online shopping. <-- I find this insanely useful for pre-sale browsing such that when i do purchase items i go directly to the store to get x, y, z items. Living in Centurion helps as everything is 3-7km away :p

Now Pc/Tech goods is still the domain of Pc equip stores. I nowadays purchase via online places as I'm not familiar with dealer places or know dealers like i when in Cpt where i'd get direct from importers haha. For computer stuffs I can't really complain to be honest.. other stuff not really worth getting online without checking out stores around you(closer than you think sometimes).
