What i'm not understanding is if the ANC can call shots, and also give the DA ultimatums - why did they need the GNU in the first place? IT seems they can just make all the decisions they want anyway?

I'm still not getting an answer i can understand.

If you do not have enough votes to form a government and the DA was the only party big enough to allow them to have a GNU, why are they telling the DA it can leave? If the DA leaves they cannot have a Govt?

Because the ANC can have a minority government where they lobby support on a needs basis. The ANC still have too many NA seats and the DA too few to become a real hinderance to the ANC's reckless policies.
