SA Politics Thread Part 10 : The GNU Has Crashed

It's a very valid question, the reason you were not seeing those potholes during Cilliers Brink's tenure was because Afriforum was helping to fix them, and it is in that context I asked about them.

But if you felt it was a misdirection you shouldn't have entertained it, I wouldn't have bothered you.
Doubt they'd even mention them even without Afriforum covering for them.

They don't criticise when the DA is in charge because the complaints are more political than they are about service delivery.

I think Joburg and Tshwane can be saved it'll just take very long. Years of ANC rule have a culture of a certain entitlement among the work force who clearly prefer the ANC's lackadaisical approach to work. The places are captured with tenderpreuners agitating against anyone but the ANC because their bread is being threatened if there's real accountability

Emfuleni is totally dysfunctional due to decades of ANC mismanagement. So are over 75% of municipalities with decades of ANC majority. Heck in my area nearly every government vacancy goes through councillors including nurses. You either buy or sleep with someone in most cases to be employed. The clinical head of the hospital prances about in ANC regalia but at least he's a doctor.
To correct/or add to you:

The whole of South Africa can be saved, it has the easy potential to be a 1st-world country with the greatest infrastructure in the whole of Africa.
the problem is when your leadership steal, and cozy up to dodgy peasant-countries for kickbacks and other bad decisions that everyone suffers.

there is no reason this country cannot play on the same level as the big guys. Its self-inflicted 101%.

That's some clever politicking, now the Gwaza Mkhontos are going to look at Floyd funny and wander if Dudu wasn't right all along about him.
🎯

Mbalula realized that in the era of coalitions, strategy is everything.

Enlighten us specifically which nations are you talking about when talking about foreign investment because this is about Elon and his Starlink and he's in America and you said we need him and last I checked, the US is in the Western hemisphere, unless I'm missing something Mr South Africa Needs Foreign Investment From the West?
Mr. Socialism will work this time

I was not specifically talking about Starlink (which would be beneficial) or the US (of which I am no fan). I was talking about investment in general — I do not give a toss from whence it comes. I, unlike some, am not blinded by racism, some of us got over that carp years ago!

Not without addressing apartheid's legacy and it's impact on the black majority it can't.

It's like putting ice cream on crap. Not sustainable.

Apartheid's legacy is history. Half the working force is part of a generation that doesn't even know what it was.

Apartheid's only use now is to be brought up to teach hatred and racism. Absolutely no other reason to mention it.

The global trade reset is South Africa’s wake-up call.

Our government must go beyond talking, back local manufacturing, fund exporters and turn the trade chaos into jobs.

The world is looking for new partners, South Africa can show up and take their seat at the table instead of running around with our begging bowl like we have nothing to offer. We are the business. We will not be dictated to by wealthy white men who got their wealth due to apartheid. 🙂
Agreed - good luck competing with the ANC's bestest chums in China though. You need wealth to create it and the ANC's best job in the world is to chase the wealth away, instead of growing it. But hey, maybe THIS time pure communism will work in South Africa

Exactly, I will admit that most of the work done in Tshwane has been more about getting the administrative part right with paying all the debts left behind by the DA and trying to get the books right.

The basic service delivery is still way off compared to what it should be, so he is probably right about those potholes, but the problem is the same people who are now moaning about service delivery are the same ones who would have descended on you like rabid dogs if you dared say that under Cilliers Brink.

The same people thought I was a big joke when I commented about the poor service delivery, because Brink and Afriforum were taking good care of them, at the expense of other areas in the city.

Lol those countries are not terrible, but why settle for a Makro shirt when you can have a Polo one? :)

Some of us are not brand kweens. Besides that Polo shirt is made in the same factory by the same Chinese peasants as the Makro one. It just has a Polo label slapped on it

Yes because Russia, India and China are full blown communist nations.

Go rest. You're now twisting and squirming trying to deflect from the fact that you insisted indirectly that SA needs Elon and the USA to survive economically. Rest.

Lies.
Polo is upscale, it's made in indonesia

It's still their choice if that were true in the first place and you not respecting what they pick at the ballot is what I mean when I state people don't respect democratic processes when they don't like the outcomes.
Can't argue with that at all - this is why education is so bloody important but unfortunately you need people to push back against Idiocracy instead of sitting back going "I told you so". If you are unable to see that, you are part of the problem.

Yes folks, you read that right.

A black kid born in Soweto in 1994 to a mother without a job or who is a low income earner such as a domestic worker had the exact same opportunity to flourish in life in South Africa as their white counterpart who was born also in 1994 to wealthy parents due to apartheid uplifting and promoting white people in South Africa and in the economy pre 1994.

Reality alludes many well off folks in South Africa. White well off folks...

"'colonial architecture' information she is so adamant exists? Why can't these self-important people push back against the thuggery of the ANC?"

Because on one side, you have people who defend apartheid and it's legacy and on the other, you have people who defend the ANC and it's corruption.

It's corruption Vs apartheid essentially. One can't be dealt with while leaving the other.
Disagree completely. We live with the legacy of apartheid because the ANC refuses to learn from the NATS' mistakes and continuously uses apartheid as the crux for most of SA's problems. Glad you group ANC + corruption together at least...it's a step in the right direction

The black kid's mother who works for us has confirmed his education was far better back then, and so was medical and so forth.

But let's keep using the past as an excuse to move nowhere in the future except pillage and steal and see where that gets us. So far its proving really helpful :)

SA needs rid of the ANC to survive economically.

Yes, and the DA is. 🤣

You are seriously laughable.

There isnt a single party that is pro-poor or pro-the people.
And if you think they are, then you are seriously naïve.

These are career politicians, who's only interest is self enrichment.

As I said before, politicians, and especially the ANC, are willing to burn the peoples bones to keep themselves warm.
Same as why BOSA and ASA voted with the VAT increase, to show allegiance and possibly gain a seat in the GNU and one of the ministries.
Voting for VAT = burning the peoples bones
Getting a seat in GNU and a ministry = keeping themselves warm

In all fairness, no matter how you want to spin it, with whatever propaganda anyone wants to spew, the VAT increase should not have been passed. And I say this not because thats what the DA said, I say this because I see the effects in real time.
Household spend drops significantly as everything suddenly becomes more expensive, this knock on effect for any business is that less revenue comes in, therefore turnover and profits decrease, causing the gap between gross and net margin to decrease. So what will any sane company due to increase that gap? Lower overheads, and how will they do it? Retrenchment......
Which means, less money going towards tax, and therefore less money for government to spend.

We've been watching this cycle happen since the last VAT increase, and even before that since the Rand has weakened, considering we import a stupid amount of stuff due to the ANC just about destroying our production sector.

Neither India nor Russia are communist, China is unique politically. It looks like a free market economy with Maoist undertones.
