That's why I was hoping Cilliers Brink would respond to that, given the history of the DA in the capital, it's entirely possible that the reason the low key parade was so expensive is because some money found it's way into the pocket of a connected DA cadre.

The real question is — do you know it cost R200k more, or are you just running with a tweet as gospel?

Until there’s an official, line-by-line breakdown from both sides, “R200k more” is just political storytelling dressed up as fact. You’re comparing an unaudited Twitter claim to an assumption, and then calling it proof. That’s not how accountability works — that’s how narratives are manufactured.

If ActionSA has the receipts, let them present them through proper oversight. Otherwise, this isn’t a gotcha — it’s just good theatre.

How would he have the audited Financials for that crass display by the AuctionSA mayor?

Im more than happy to call him out, but it must be based on audited Financials.

Wouldn't it be nice if Cilliers Brink, as the official opposition were to hold them to account on this?

All the facts can be put on the table and he can have great pleasure in exposing them, instead of disappearing like a Thief into the night as soon as the costs are presented.

Sure — and it would be even nicer if ActionSA presented something more substantial than a tweet before demanding a public showdown.

Brink doesn’t need to play hero in a pantomime. If ASA wants to be taken seriously, they should bring audited figures. Then you’ll see real accountability, not this performance art.

Calling it a disappearance when he simply refuses to jump into every baited narrative? That’s not a thief in the night — that’s a politician choosing substance over circus.

Too risky, maybe at some point in the future. If they pass an amendment bill right now, the DA comes off as the winner while they look like chumps. DA also won't be happy because these small parties won't shut up about how it was them that got the bill onto the table and VAT scrapped.

The least messy solution is they leave the existing VAT hike, and cut next year's one in addition to the spending review. That way the DA can still claim to have voted against the hike, the ANC still gets their VAT hike and the only ones looking like chumps are Herman and co...

My apologies, let's call it his lack of availability as soon as the costs issue was raised, which was purely coincidental, disappearance does sound dishonorable, and I am sure Cilliers Brink is an honourable man.

Apology accepted — and yes, let’s keep it grounded.

But here’s the thing: Brink never raised the issue of cost. His comment was about tone and optics — no horses, no gold helmets, no pageantry. It was ASA that jumped in trying to reframe the debate into a cost contest.

So why should he entertain a narrative he never started, especially when it’s being driven by a party more interested in PR battles than actual governance? If ActionSA wants to debate numbers, let them show audited figures where it counts — not in threads designed for outrage clicks.

Brink’s “lack of availability” wasn’t dishonorable. It was calculated. He saw the spin for what it was and chose not to feed it. That’s not silence out of fear — that’s knowing which noise isn’t worth answering.

And I can assure you if it happens that the DA were to raise the issue of Panyaza's SOPA being more expensive than Winde, you would not see all the impressive gymnastics being pulled by DA supporters now.

When organisations like the DA, OUTA, and Afriforum, raise credible evidence of financial irregularities in the Gauteng provincial government, Panyaza Lesufi tends to simply dismiss the allegations with "try harder" instead of following up with a meaningful response befitting a sincere desire to root out corruption.
