SA Politics Thread Part 10 : The GNU Has Crashed

A sobering take on the GNU by a respected insider. To summarize, potential upside but lots of downside for the DA. Only upside for the ANC. At best sideways movement for SA. Thoughts?

What I took from the thread is that DA stayed because
  • That's what DA voters want (according to DA's renowned internal polling),
  • They want to get things done as much as they can,
  • And lastly, and more importantly, use it as a springboard to access the ANC's moderate and/or black middle class base.

Aggg shem, the bitter ex is having a little cry in the corner again.
It's funny how they rage about GNU, but were more than happy to join when there was a deadlock and it seemed Rama was going to remove DA ministers...

They might have more credibility if they refused to join when offered, like Tony Leon did after NP left GNU 1.

All bets are off for next year, it seems.

Because whoever in GNU scores the most wins (not necessarily biggest vote share) will have the upper hand. Since it would change the balance in GNU, and in local negotiations.

12 EFF supporters perish after Youth Day celebrations on their way home in KZN after a truck collides with their bus.

Condolences.

Don't expect to find much sympathy here. We only virtue signal for folks who look like us

It's not crying if it's true, unless of course in the South Africa you live in in your head that also doesn't have apartheid's legacy still alive, you've seen unemployment cut meaningfully, crime reduced to reasonable levels, and social cohesion getting stronger.

The GNU is a dismal failure and the loony DA supporters think because their 21% party who they think leaves roses behind when it goes to the toilet is now part of government, we'll critique it less.

Notice how the standards always change for the loony DA supporters. 🤣

The government is terrible! With the DA in it!
