Although not the last set of by-elections for the year, definitely the last big set of by-elections.

We begin in the Eastern Cape, where the ANC should easily hold in Makana (the Makana Citizens Front is not competing in the by-election, hence the ***). There are two highly competitive by-elections elsewhere in the EC, with a straight ANC-DA battle Kouga while in Kou-Kamma, while the results may suggest a tight three-way battle, in reality it's likely to be one between the ANC and the PA.

We next turn to Gauteng, with a safe Joburg north ward for the DA. Likewise in Merafong City, the ANC will be expected to coast home. In KZN, given the wholly dominant performance of the MK in the 2024 provincial ballot in the ward - and despite under-performance post the 2024 election, I'd still expect the MK to take the ward off the ANC.

In the Northern Cape, the 2024 provincial ballot results are first, with the 2021 municipal results in brackets. Given the underperformance of the DA in the NC, I can't see them winning any of the two wards. Not sure how the ANC more than doubled their vote share in the Hantam ward between 2021 and 2024 despite the DA vote share remaining stable.

It's because the ANC has always suffered from their voters staying away more than them voting for the opposition, in instances where they manage to convince them to ho out and vote, the opposition will keep their vote and the ANC double theirs like it happened here.

I think he is hinting at manipulation of voter count by EC.

So then why the need to boast about it?
The boasting is always perceived, if I tell you I own R5 million Supercar, it's up to you to decide if I am boasting or just informing you for whatever reason in whatever context of the conversation we were having.

So the cities use ratepayers money, and some people might say they deserve to know how their money is used, the city informing the residents could also be seen as transparency, but someone like you could see it as boasting, which is not the city's fault that you choose to see it that way.

Nope. Just in an election where the ANC went backwards in every province, it's unexpected to see a large increase in the ANC vote share, even if it's just a small ward in a small municipality (the ANC won the ward in 2024 provincial ballot by 798 votes to 506 votes for the DA)

But why? Didn't the DA start winning by elections when the new leadership of Steenhuisen and Zille took over from Maimane?

No you posting it here like its somehow important is boasting. Wow the city bought some water tankers with our tax money.

Yes, although for some reason the Northern Cape DA is quite weak/didn't turn out the voters (or lost too many to the PA). Btw, the result I gave above is for the provincial ballot in 2024 for the ward, not an actual by-election per se.

The leadership of the ANC has been putting in some hard work in the organizational mattersin the province, not only have they bern doubling their votes in some wards, but they have also been taking wards from the DA.

As far as the DA is concerned, it looks like they have given up on the Northern Cape, probably frustrated by the small numbers of votes there, maybe they have decided to rather focus their efforts and resources on the big provinces.

True, there is much better return on investment elsewhere likely. So much land to cover in the NC but so few people! Having said that, the NC DA X account has been quite active so they are putting in a fair amount of effort.
