Poland is far more deserving of a G20 spot as a developing country than SA if one were to use economic stats as a metric.

I thought Poland is considered a developed nation by those metrics. G20 is a group for both develiping and developed nations. South Africa is one of Africa's leading economies (though stagnant or in decline).

Yes, and saving most of the jobs that were on the line with Nissan's impending exit. They probably have some models that will be built here soon if the jobs are part of deal.

Things look gloom for NissanSA though, I doubt they are going to survive here even with just imports.

They can't compete vs the Chinese + Suzuki.

The Nissan lineup in SA is a problem.

The NP200 was their best seller, but has been discontinued.
The Navara doesn't sell nearly as well as the Ranger, Hilux or D Max.
The Magnite is (to me) a terrible vehicle.

Add in the Datsun Go mess and cheap new Chinese brands to Nissan's global problems, and it's not looking good.

Only problem is that they can, the Chinese are not doing anything special, just capitalizing on the incompetence and greed of the mainstream manufacturers. As you rightly point out Suzuki is putting a good fight, Nissan and Honda are just badly run at least here in SA.

Yep, totally no coherent South African strategy, the reason VW is so successful is that they are not just selling cars here, they make it their business to understand the market and respond to it, Nissan has been throwing anything the find at the market, with no plan or direction.

On economic terms, Poland is a good gauge of what SA may have been able to achieve after Apartheid. We we're never going to be Singapore, but we could have done much more than we did.

While Poland shows SA would could have been done economically, SA could teach Poland something about human rights.

What does Poland need to learn about human rights? Would Poland have succeeded the same way if they had “human rights”?

I mean they had the perfect opportunity to compete in the Tshwane by election last Wednesday and yet they avoided it (as usual). There's something very suspicious about Action SA where their social media activity is divorced from on the ground campaigning

The likes of Citroën appear to have learnt something. There was a time when Nissan were doing exceptionally well in the bakkie/utility vehicle market. Then suddenly they lost the edge.

There was a time when it was either a Sentra or a Corolla, something did go very wrong at some point.

They won a ward after merging with that North West party, but at the end of the day, someone who supports a party that picks and choose the by elections it competes in like the DA has zero moral high ground to look down on ActionSA picking which by elections it contest in.
