SA Post Office goes digital

Oh my word.... there is no doubt in my mind this was done precisely for one purpose... E-TOLL notifications.
Wonder what other surprises will come out of the woodwork in the next few days

Quite possible. But oh dear, how unfortunate, my HTC One just fell in water and I have decided to replace it with whichever phone's available these days that has only SMS capabilities. Also, I don't have an email address or a computer. Oh, I work in IT? Well I can't use work equipment for private use I'm afraid.

:D

SAPO can not even manage delivery of physical mail - just imagine the IT security nightmare with a digital solution. I received feedback from SAPO today about my complaint about Bryanston Postoffice (people waiting at parcel counters for 1 1/2 hours while staff go for lunch) and was told that ever since the new government is in place, SAPO has not received sufficient budget for staffing, hence the delays everywhere - such nonsense.

If you register for a digital mailbox it's your own fault ;-)

One question, any law knowledge around, Paul?

What is the legal implications here, especially when it comes to legal "signed" documentation in regard with "e"?

Welcome to New SA.

EMS item: posted 27 Nov 2013. Delivery date: 9 Dec 2013. (I hope). It seems there is a massive screw up at JIMC with flights being overloaded with mail. Flights JHB to Cape Town. SAPO can't keep up its EMS commitments. And they used to be so good at it, just a year ago.

EMS items posted in SA also loiter for 4-5 days before they leave the country. This is telling considering in other countries they leave the same or next day after posting.

The SAPO track and trace website works for a few hours each week. If the IT for the digital mail is any comparison, it will be a disaster from day one, if there is ever a day one

Quote: Escher, a provider of outsourced, point of sale software to the postal industry, said that the South African Post Office has selected its RiposteTrEx platform to deliver its e-registered mail services, following a “rigorous tender process”.

= who got the biggest backhander

The site works OK, just updates slowly sometimes. The problem is that items actually sit stuck, being sent to the airport, then sent back, sent again, and sent back.... it's as if there are not enough flights. But SAPO gets paid for EMS deliveries by the sending postal authority. They just don't deliver within the time frame, any more.

Well my friend who runs a bookshop sends out between 100 and 200 items a week. He told me they cannot rely on the track and trace, it is so often unavailable

So they gave up and now use Berco. A 100% success rate, nothing gets lost and delivery within 3 days anywhere in SA and Namibia

This would be awesome if this was something like Endycia.

Oh Ok. My experience is that the tracker is available, and is usually updated, but there are real physical delays.

The guys in Capemail are the best though, usually if the item arrives in the morning, they clear it through customs and will deliver it same day to the door. They also call ahead with any amount payable (if appropriate). The big delays are in JIMC and getting the item from JIMC to the local hub.

It must be especially after the post office workers made their snail statement

I am guessing South Africa is the first country that has been sold this RiposteTrEx.

From the image it seem to work over the internet or mobile phone

So everyone who registered for e-tags are screwed as SANRAL will have your mobile and your email address.
