SA Roads are DANGEROUS!

So this morning on my way to work, I am sitting on the rivonia offramp when right next to me on the highway a land rover discovery takes out 2 vehicles right infront of my eyes (a getz and a suzuki swift, I think). All I heard was screeching tyres followed by metal being crumpled. The whole ordeal lasted about 5 seconds but made an impact on me forever. I wish people could see what an accident like that looks like and how quickly it can happen. SA roads are no joke your life could be taken away from you in a instant without warning.

People need to be more tolerant, reduce speeds and start driving like civil human beings, this carnage can't continue forever can it?

That roads are fine. It's the people.

Disagree. The roads are NOT fine.
There are too many potholes.
Too many worn/faded road markings.
Too many broken traffic lights.
Too many deteriorating or inferior road surfaces.

Motorists are ALSO dangerous, agreed.

The roads are not fine in JHB, almost every intersection with a stop street or robot have these ripples in the tar, it makes it very difficult to stop or slow down at the legal speed any faster and it will be impossible to stop!
 
I just don't get why people get so aggressive on the roads. Always some douche overtaking me in the 60 zone when I am going 60.

And more often than not you stop right behind the same douche at the next robot which just leaves me asking wtf was the point of you being so damn impatient.

This old discussion again? Sure, if there's space in the slow lane, that logic applies. Otherwise, if the slow lane is crawling and I'm moving at the speed limit in the fast lane, it doesn't. Unless the person has an emergency and have hazards flashing, or some other indication of this, there's no reason to be impatient.

I'll reiterate what the OP wrote: People need to be more tolerant, reduce speeds and start driving with more respect for life
 
I'm voting with the drivers being the issue as well.
Yep there are potholes, yep there are traffic light down for weeks on end, yep, yep, yep... BUT... Last month a guy drove into me while I was sitting at a red traffic light. Let me rephrase that, a guy in a Getz drove into me, without slowing down at all while I, and the fifty or so cars around me in both lanes were stopped and waiting patiently at a red traffic light and had been for twenty seconds or so already. The guy then rolled back into the car behind him and fell over twice while we waited for the popo... Drunk or drugs, don't know but it was 10.30am on a Saturday morning.
Then, last week, a 4x4 shot a traffic light around the corned from our offices. In his rush, he managed to hit a woman in a Polo on the wrong side of the road... That was when he lost control totally and crashed through the wall of the shopping centre, right next to a really bust Steers and about two meters from one of the centre staff who was taking a time-out to have a little lunch.
Twice yesterday, I slowed down and stopped at traffic lights that had gone red for me while the guys behind me just put their foot down and shot the lights. Hooting just draws verbal abuse from these upstanding citizens. Perhaps they'll be a little more contrite when they're standing over the bodies of people their arrogance and two ton car kill.

I laugh when they do it on Republic :D Metro are trapping 90% of the time on that road.
