South Africa has achieved far more in 18 years in service delivery than any other country, President Jacob Zuma said on Monday.

"No country could have produced the delivery we have made in 18 years," he told the SA Local Government Association (Salga) national conference in Midrand.

He said government successes in service delivery were lost in the "hurley-burley" of competitive politics.

Non-delivery of services often had to do with problems inherited from apartheid, he said.

"There is a common tendency to look at government at all levels as if those who are governing have brought the problem, instead of deep seated challenges [from] the past."

Government was working very hard to address these problems, Zuma said.

Government was shy to boast about its successes and this then created a space for those criticising government to sound like they were telling the truth.

"All I am calling for is balanced reporting about the progress we have made in this country."

Conference delegates welcomed Zuma in song with a smattering of people holding up two fingers - a sign favouring Zuma to serve a second term as African National Congress president.

:wtf:

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

oh wait, not a hayibo article? :erm:

But of course. Every government failure is apartheid's fault. Does the prez have any facts to back up his claims on service delivery?

Wahahahaha....

Zooma my son, you are deluded and thick as two short planks.

Zooma my son, you are deluded and thick as two short planks.

I think it's more a result of the culture he has created. He employs yes-men and political favourites into key positions. These people don't know how to give him bad news, so they lie to him so as to remain favourite.

What??!! Says its a hayibo article...someone.....please!!! Otherwise we are all screwed if the 'leader' of the country thinks that!

Lol, so I guess the whole text book scandal was exceptional service delivery? Owe, wait, that was also apartheid's fault right? It's amazing in this day and age that 1 cannot even deliver simple text books to schools.

Yurra, for such a well travelled politician, he sure pays very little attention.

Good god, that is one of the most condescending and insulting pieces of drivel to leave that moron's mouth in years. Up yours, el-presidento...

Wow, and they use to call him the President of the People because he was suppose to know about their needs and address their needs...

No wonder he is not in good standing for a second term.

Bwahahahahahahaha, how can anyone believe this bafoon!!! And blame it all on apartheid you pig!! The only thing you can do well is marry woman, that's it... So stfu and just hand over power to someone that is capable of running a country properly!!

*facepalm*
oh deargod, this country is starting to make Zimbabwe look more rational by the day.

Actually its partly true. Since 94 there has been great strides in terms of getting water and electricity out to most people. I saw stats years ago that where actually very good. The issue is that because of infrastructure neglect it all won't matter much soon. Water infrastructure is aging and starting to collapse as is sewrage treatment all over the show. The two are interlinked as when sanitation plants break down the sewrage is just pumped into the local rivers. Bad stuff.

Another related set is our ports/rail/road infrastructure. Our rail network is in very poor condition and is very badly managed. My dad worked on a coal mine in Mpumalanga and they would get perhaps half the transport carriages they requested. Hence they started to have to use the much more expensive form of road transport which accelerated the destruction of the road network. Our ports are also struggling with many of the skilled workers retiring and incompetent people coming in.

Add to that the debacle that is public healthcare, ongoing service delivery strikes, growing unemployment, etc and I am sorry but I can't agree with mr Zuma. The country is in a slow and steady decline towards a failed state scenario. It can still be reversed but it would require honest and competent men in government. There are few within the ANC that meet both those criteria tbh.
