SA smart plugs that can be flashed with Tasmota

They work really well.

The ULink is definitely smaller but the socket is very stiff and thus not ideal for day to day use (too hard to get plugs in and out of it).

The BNETA is a steal for the price and even though bigger is just as thin and works really well.

Hehe absolutely, thanks for sharing it. I can still say that I have very good experience with them, although no comments on the stock firmware.
 
New plug from Qualitel on Takealot -- power monitoring, 3-pin ZA plug and rated to 16A and only R250. It's literally cheaper than getting a Sonoff POW 2 at this point.

It says SmartLife app, which makes me think it is Tuya based and thus hopefully flashable. For R250 I'll probably take the chance and send it back to Takealot if it isn't.

EDIT: a reviewer on another of their products (B22 bulb) indicated their products are Tuya based and flashable, so this makes the plug likely as well.

Seems to be R209 from Qualitel themselves.... but they're out of stock so who knows.

Also may be Tuya based, but some Tuya products are using Realtek chipsets which aren't flashable, but I would assume the plug is ESP based so should be good.

Got 4 today and other 2 hopefully next week.

Tried one ... easy to setup and connect to Google Home.

If prices right, would have loved another 4. But prices up again on Loot and TA.

Although the Qualitel on TA at R249 doesn't seem too bad?

Yeah, I haven't seen the Realtek based Tuya products yet but I assume they're coming at some point.

So far lucky in SA.

I flashed 6 Ultralinks last night, no problem with any of them.
 
Anyone bought those Sansuis one and actually flashed them? They look perfect and not badly priced either.

I had a look at them and almost bought one, but I specifically wanted something that monitored power usage too, which they unfortunately do not do.

Plan was also to put mine in line with some heavier appliances (dishwasher, washing machine) so wanted more amps (16 vs. 10 on the Sansui's).
 
N00b question - is power monitoring a hardware or software limitation? In other words, would a Sonoff Basic be able to do power monitoring if flashed other firmware, or does it lack the required hardware?

Nope, all hardware. The Sonoff POW R2 uses a CSE7766 chip, while others use a hlw8012 or a BL0937 chip. Tasmota and other ESP8266 firmwares typically has support for these built in, so easy enough to enable it if the chip is present.

Yeah they certainly win on looks, I bought mine 'cos they're so pretty. And the one is a DIY plug you can fit yourself.
Unfortunately I don't know enough yet to say if they're flashable of not..

Exactly what I want it for as all their mosquito machines are old fashioned 3-prong.
