SA spending more online

This might sound weird, but that quote actually gives me hope. I thought we were much more than a decade behind the US where e-commerce is concerned. At least there's hope.

The delivery charges and problems currently experienced by online customers tend to deter the growth as well. Delivery to my neck of the woods can take from 1 week to 2 months and the charges vary from R50 to R185 per shot. As soon as the courier services and Speed post improve I will be interested, but not quite now.

well last year i bought more stuff online than before then again i've been buying online for sometime. I just go to shops to see what the item looks like etc and then push my order online where its sometimes ot mostly cheaper. delivery charges vary pending on the size of order.. so i usually where possible group smaller orders together. And then there are vouchers :) that make me buy things i've been considering getting but often they cover the delivery charge for smaller items.
2 i mainly use are digital planet and kalahari.. kalahari more though and often i order my friends and families things for them saving them about R100 - R200

But if you notice the rate has declined by 5%. Problem is people don't have as much expendable income as they should thanks to telkom.

Well it's natural with more people going online that the online spending will go up.

Agree with Pimal3 that delivery times can be erractic although Kalahari have improved with their special "24 hour" delivery time on certain products.

South Africa's state-controlled fixed-line phone company Telkom has been criticised for its broadband Internet tariffs, which are higher than in most developed countries.
The DoC doesn't give a ****. When someone starts to turn up the heat, they just get Roy to give some ra-ra speech about how much they are doing, or are going to do 'stuff' while behind the scenes they let Telkom screw us over some more,,,
1 Nov '05 serves as a good example.

edit:
Telkom denies it charges too much and has said broadband prices will fall once take-up accelerates.
Yeahh rigggghhhtttt, just like the cell companies have done with their fantastic levels of market penetration. Silly me, you control that too dont you
