Sigh. Same mistake. All or none groupthink thinking. I am human and dislike certain people/things but it's not based on their group. It's based on their individual actions. You see ? This is ok. I'm treating people like individuals not as groups and holding them acountable to their actions. I'm not prejudiced against them until they've done something to make me dislike them.

The pre in prejudice is the latin prefix for before (just like in prefix). It's to judge someone before you know them based on negative preconceptions. It's pretty simple really.

The slaves got paid for it though.(ok some of them paid in alcohol)

This led to development in technology and the efficiency of the system. I will say that many aspects (besides the obvious) of the Apartheid system were indeed good for the country.

Exactly, companies like Sasol comes to mind.

We had an efficient government that had to succeed and they kept the country clean and living conditions were good, some of the black people were actually a bit better off inspite of the persecution.

yes, the problem with systems like apartheid though is, that it cant adapt, the same can be said for communism.

The Apartheid government should have rather abolished all the oppressive laws and stayed in power and convinced the people to change their viewpoints. In other words they should have turned into a democratic government. But maybe they would also have become like the current government officials in this world where there are so many more reasons to be greedy.

They should have, but political tenstion didn't allow them too, remember the nats used the whole Anglo-Boer war concept to outvote Smuts in 1948. Smuts wanted to encourage black students to study further in SA universities (mandela made us of this oppertunity). Unfortenetely anything his party did was seen as English, because the emotions were so high during that time.

The brits said A, The nats did B. It wasn't until the 1980s that Botha tried to adapt their police, unfortunately the broederbonders in charge were to short-sighted to open up a 4th parliament for the black people. Or negotiate with them. If he had then drunken Pik wouldn't have gotten us such a bad deal in 1991.

At least he admits he is prejudiced. He tries to justify it the way a serial killer may justify raping and killing women because his mother, a woman, maltreated him as a child - so they must all be bad. Except in this case, we don't even know if the initial cases were bad.

This is the pure and simple basis for prejudice. There is no way you can be prejudiced to something you know absolutely nothing about, you can only be prejudiced to something or someone about whom you've had some knowledge. The knowledge in question may be valid or invalid.

Of course he also generalises - ie extrapolates his own experience or some experience he read about and blames everyone - guilt by association. All Jews are bad, according to Hitler, because a few were bankers, and Hitler preferred German money to be in German hands.

No-one or at least very few people here are against Blacks. Speaking for myself, I definately, am NOT. So when I attack the rampant crime in this country I attack the criminals and those who facilitate it.

The ones who perpetrate the crime are the criminals. That's easy.

Who facilitates it or does not do enough about it? Well the government. As a citizen of a country, and a taxpayer, I have a full right to criticise things I do not like. I am not obliged to praise things, after all I expect no praise myself and will render no praise unless I feel something extraordinarily good has been achieved. Well the govt in SA has been doing a very bad job. They're not doing enough about crime, they're not doing enough about race-harmony, etc. When guys like me, say things like this, don't jump to conclusions and see us through your own lens. Don't project or assume others think the way you do. You're been harping on Afrikaaners because they call you 'soutie'. I'm not against black people. I'm not against Afrikaaners. I'm against those government people who don't do right.

You on the other hand have some issues. You're against whites and Afrikaaners. I don't mind Xhosas, Zulus, Portuguese or other local tribes. I like everyone. It's just that right now the ruling govt is ANC and they are the ones who are not doing such a great job. As concerned citizens we're unhappy about that, because we care.

Then you become personal. You attack one an entire culture - Afrikaaners, you attack doctors etc. What has that got do do with anything? Keep your own little personal issues out of this debate. Write a blog about how doctors suck and how Korea is a dump and how Afrikaaners are racists but keep the arguments here objective and factual.

I repeat : I have no prejudice against doctors and Afrikaaners. Most of my family are Afrikaans including my mother. I don't even know where you're getting the doctor thing from. I assume you've made some obscure assumptions regarding the hiv thread. I think this would be a silly prejudice given I'm only alive due to modern medicine and doctors. Korea is a dump in my opinion but that's nothing to do with Koreans. So what ? What if I don't like chocolate ? Prejudiced against cocolate ? Coco butter ? Maybe...but not really the same crime now is it ? Since when do inanimate things have rights ?

You do. Earlier on in this or another thread you suggested I want empathy from you because I told you I worked in disadvantaged communities. Instead my point was that I know what I'm talking about because (unlike you) I'm a professional in that field and have first hand knowledge what poor service is.
I don't merely go on "staff were polite" or "staff were not polite" - I can judge the actual technical quality of the service - not the subjective perception thereof a lay person. You understood my comment as me wanting empathy from you which was your own subjectively slanted view of the objective opinion I was presenting. You see things emotively but without factual detail. Why would I want empathy from some anonymous internet forum poster. Come on. If you were clear headed you'd have known that, instead you assumed things about me based on some 'loss of respect for the medical profession' you harbour. Who cares.

This is again totally irrelevant. Please don't bring your medical history into this. We all have family who've been sick with terminal illnesses and we've all lost loved ones. I was also seriously ill at one stage. Keep your personal history, and your prejudice to yourself. We don't want to know. If you want to discuss your illness go on another thread or forum and post there, don't bring that here.
