SA Support

No, I haven't supported them since they decided to go overseas for the coaching duties.

I have another team now, one that actually qualified to be there.

This is my question to everyone here.

With SA struggling (and some will say, OUT of the SWC) and such, are YOU still supporting SA at games?

I personally will go to every single game (I goto the Fan Park in CPT) and cheer them on (as if they have lost NOTHING and won EVERYTHING) and enjoy the Fan Parks.

And you?!?

This is probably going to see me get flamed and insulted but...

I'm not really supporting Bafana Bafana out there anymore.

1. It was disappointing when Khune went out and said we needed to make more vuvuzela noise to distract our opponents and give them the upper hand. It's completely unsportsmanlike and to treat visiting teams like that is somewhat disrespectful. I know Bafanan Bafana aren't in this world cup out of merit but there is no reason to resort to unsportsmanlike behaviour to get ahead.

2. Mexico and Uruguay are just better teams and deserve to go through. By not qualifying and still having a spot in this world cup we have already unfairly eliminated one more deserving team from the competition. To eliminate another when we are playing like this wouldn't be right.

3. I'd rather support a team like North Korea which showed true grit and earned my respect against Brazil. Bafana Bafana weren't even trying against Uruguay and they showed a complete lack of any grit and determination when they gave away their lead with such a soft goal against Mexico.

I supported Bafana Bafana from the beginning knowing that they would most likely not make it through the first round but I thought they would at least give it absolutely everything and play with heart and passion and pride. Unfortunately they seemed to run out of that towards the end of the Mexico game and there were no signs of it at all against Uruguay.

I will shout for them cos one must shout for your country but its Argentina's year..... ;)

Unfortunately, I have to agree with BrendanD to some extent. I was screaming for the boys vs. Mexico especially after they scored 1st but sat completely dumbstruck throughout the Uruguay game. I'll always be a proud SA supporter wrt all sports but watching other 'lesser' teams like like Korea DPR, Korea Republic and Switzerland recently playing their hearts out against the big boys of the footballing world and then comparing that to SA's self destruction against Uruguay is really disappointing. I will be once again cheering on the boys when they take on France regardless of the result but it would be really nice to see them redeem some pride for the nation by putting in a performance filled with grit and determination.

They are not the first team to try and raise the support from the supporters to give them an advantage. It is common knowledge that home ground advantage is a big thing. Just because the support here happens to take the form of the vuvuzela and you are opposed to it does not change that.

If this competition was based purely on who the better teams are then why even bother playing? Why not just nominate the team seeded highest in the rankings as the winner? Earlier you were talking about merit but now you are effectively saying that if a qualifying team battles to get through on MERIT then we should feel sorry for them. They have their destiny in their own hands. FIFA did not give SA a few bonus points to start with.

No comment necessary for this statement....

I'll continue to support them no matter what. It does not seem reasonable to even insinuate that a team could possibly run onto the field with the intention of losing! (And no we are not considering match fixing here although at R1mil per goal if you win you think SA would be more interested in that anyway - actually in saying that it makes it seem more likely that they will go for the 4-0 win versus France! R4mil in the pocket! :) )

So now I am quite interested to talk to some German fans....

After the grit and determination (or should that rather be skill) shown by them in thumping Australia and now slumping to a defeat against lowly Serbia I wonder if all their fans are jumping ship and no longer supporting their team? It seems to be the done thing.....

That wasn't a slumping defeat first of all, secondly Serbia aren't lowly period
Germany kept attacking and did miss a penalty but were still entertaining.

Serbia are good team man!

No, I never supported Bafana so I didn't jump.
I'll always support Germany, through and through.

I'm a bit sad though. Hope they get through.
