SA vs UK IT salaries

South African IT professionals looking to advance their careers and earn a better salary could consider moving to the UK.

My bullshit and bad comparisons are at it again I know you are #imstaying crowd but you are making it too obvious

When I left UK in 2000 a pack of fags was 4 pounds 20 and exchange rate was around 10 to 1 so that was 42 bux in RSA
20 years later smokes are now that price

A pint of beer here in the pub is about R35 which equates to 1 pound 80. Yeah right, a pint of beer in pommy land is more like 4 quid which is almost 80 bux  Sod that, I will stay here in South Africa thank you very much

Family doesn't even bother coming to visit from the UK anymore as it's no longer that cheap.
Your UK family doesn't bother visiting you in RSA because RSA isn't cheap?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

In addition to the percentage-based tax, South Africans pay a set amount in each tax band, putting a bigger dent on their take-home pay.

It works the same in SA as in the UK with marginal tax, the only difference is that the SA table has pre-calculated the combined amount for all the previous tax bands that shows as the set amount. If you work out the percentages you will see it.

There was a previous article where an author was baffled by government payments that would normally come up often enough with SARS.

I'm starting to suspect that no one at MyBroadband pays tax.

Problem is brexit.. the internationalization of service industry is set to be shaken in UK along with the cost advantage(tax incentive) for Ireland & Netherlands with the pushed global CIT by US(because otherwise they ****ed).

Waiting to see how this shakes out along with pandemic.

50%-100% more in the UK than SA isn't going to help you if you move to London and want to buy an apartment. R8-16M for a small flat will feel unfathomable for SA'n

I’ve always found that it amazing that where one launches their career is such a huge factor as to whether or not one is able to afford to live anywhere in the world vs being locked in. What’s more is that nobody really seems to talk about it.

Was way cheaper, it's no longer the case. You were there what 20 years ago? This last 10 years things have changed.

Family doesn't visit from the UK because the cost of a Covid hotel is more than the flights, most things are still cheaper here.

My dad comes from the US annually and still considers it cheap, just not as cheap.
