This story smells off to me. Colour me jaded but I have no faith in crowdfunded stuff like this. $2 mil for a working prototype? And developed by an anethetist? Red lights everywhere.

I don't know. They talk a reasonable technical argument and if true (especially the in-wing lift fans) they should have no trouble getting their money.

I did a brief search, and a few previous articles cover this story. However none of them are in any way independent or critical, and read like press releases. This whole project smells like hot air, though not actually fraud.

Nah they'll just run away with the money. At the end of the day any VTOL aircraft powered by current Jets or avgas will simply be too expensive and not profitable for commercial or private use.
