South Africa's natural water resources are declining, the Cape Times reported on Friday, quoting from a study released this week.

"With each of the national water studies carried out since the 1950s, our estimate of the country's total natural water resources has declined," project director Brian Middleton told the newspaper.

"If we were allocating water according to the higher estimates made in previous studies, we would find that there is simply not enough water available to meet our needs."

The Water Resources of SA 2005 study, which was commissioned in 2004 but the results released only last week, said South Africa had even less water available than was initially estimated.

Some 98 percent of surface water is already allocated for use in South Africa, and the climate is expected to become even hotter and drier.

Hotter and drier they say, guess who never saw the weather :D.

Man i need to get into studies, so much coin to be made.

the problem is that our population growing to fast and that the living standards for humans are increasing, becoming more expensive, everyone should get DSTV for free imho, it should solve most of the issues.

It never ceases to amaze me that in a country with massive unemployment and an economy that's simply not big enough to create employment for this large number of unemployed, as well as insufficient water and the threat of food security issues due to desertification, that the notion of taking measures to reduce population growth is not even up for discussion.

Seriously how would dstv solve the water problem LOL :D

Although i could use that 500 rand to buy more beer :D.

And what there is, is being polluted or goes to irrigating golf-courses built via bribery.

DSTV = more people watch television = less sex at night = population breeding doesn't explode :)
less people = more water.

There is allot of underground water in the North West due to the mines - if they can treat the water and sell it it would help.

aaah lets get real here, did you really expect an improvement, with everything else falling over, this is Africa , wake the f#ck up

Not sure how that comment has anything to do with:

You're blaming "Africa" (that vague concept that seems to encompass everything bad about everything) for the fact that SA has limited natural water resources.

/facepalm

Your such an idiot you know that?

You never add anything constructive to anything and you blame the ANC or Africa for the most minute of things, even things that have nothing to do with it.

How about you wake the F#ck up?

This was bound to happen even china is struggling with water. Hopefully the government won't wait too long to put a plan into effect making clean water from Seawater.
