SAA faces big issues

South African Airways (SAA) has requested another R4 billion from the government in an attempt to keep the struggling airline afloat, according to a report by the Sunday Times.

The airline continues to operate at a loss and has a R3.5-billion short-term loan which will be depleted at the end of June 2019, along with a long-term R9.2-billion loan.

Meanwhile in other aviation news Air New Zealand has just ordered another 8 787 Dreamliners to replace it's "aging" 777's.

Because it's part of the looting project

What's there to loot exactly? Can't steal if there ain't no more money in the kitty. I'm sorry but this is such a facile response.

There must be some logic to keeping SAA afloat - however illogical it seems.

Yip! this is what BEE and affirmative action does to state organizations. Does the cANCer never learn. They are screwing up once prosperous running government departments. SAD.

This is what corruption does to state organisations, many private companies don't seem to be struggling with all the BEE and AA. An SOC such as Telkom is doing very well, does it not have AA and BEE? Do you now see how nonsensical your post is starting to sound? But I can't blame you, you are Utterly Confused.

I agree. It's Cadre deployment, not racial based policies doing this.
Being black doesn't speak to your skills and ethics, but being an anc deployee says a hell of a lot.

They know exactly what they're doing. It's about self enrichment and giving the people what they want in return for being kept in power.

It was never about the economy or people's well being.

Being a real leader is not about doing what the people tell you but doing what actually needs to be done, and taking the hard decisions to make everyone's life better.

But BBEEE is a thinly veiled disguise to allow cadre deployment to continue.

But there will always be money from the Treasury available. If you know the government will always bail you out regardless, what incentive is there to improve your financial position?

Corruption is still corruption whether it comes in a black face or a white one, and it seems the thinly veiled disguise is also proving very useful for racists, there is no proof that white executives have any issues in taking part in the prevailing corruption when they are in charge.

Yes but they're accountable to a board and shareholders.

Government seems intent on promoting the idea that black CEOs will never be held liable. Thus the racist backlash.

and that speaks to aiding and abetting incompetence, not corruption. There is a difference.

Again, what is the rationale behind supporting SAA? Do we need an airline? Do we benefit from having an airline? Come on guys, you can do better than 'so there is something to loot' <- this is not why SAA exists in the first place, and not why it continues to exist, even if said looting may be occuring (as opposed to just sheer gross incompetence).
