We expect nothing less from this government though.

Well, a lot of, if not most of the systems are actually from international suppliers, which Airbus and Boeing use. The Leap engines is of course also from CFM (GE from US and Safran from France collaboration) ... however due to the US restricting certain key technologies from being transferred to China, even though these engines carry the same name LEAP name as you find on the 737 Max and A320Neo, the engine being provided to Comac of China is inferior due to not using the latest advancements and being heavier and more thirsty than the Boeing and Airbus LEAP engines.

Also., I read that the Comac C919 list price is now pretty much the same as the 737 Max. So unless SAA negotiates a substantial discount I dont see the benefit of buying the C919 at all, apart maybe from faster delivery time from date of order, though the production rate of the C919 is pretty slow anyway too.

this, we all know the Chinese phrase for copyright does not exist,
'they simply went and copied the same part from airbus or boeing and said yip, good enough,
then went to wish.com and the slave armies they have working for them and said can you make 1000 million of this.
 
I think its great. ANC + its family members all travel with SAA. Let them use that plane so that they can all die.

Its the only way to save SA.
 
Risk mitigation... by adding a shyteload more risk.
 
I'm sure people said the same things about Airbus and Embraer. It's probably highly unlikely that SAA would buy Comac aircraft soon, but it might not be that crazy in the longer term.

Don't forget that SAA was an early Airbus customer when they were struggling to sell any aircraft.

Yes every company at one point was new and unknown. The Chinese have yet to shake their reputation for:
  • Blatant plagiarism
  • Low quality with emphasis on quantity over quality
  • Poor working conditions
  • Environmental concerns
