SAA says it can't survive current strike

Let it happen. The sooner the better. 1 Thing though, they bragged about the Airbus planes they just received in the last couples of days. Which 1 is it? Some where they are feeding BS. If it was so bad @saa, how come they buy planes or lease it.?

They are replacing less efficient aircraft (the A340's) with the A350's on certain routes - it's about remaining competitive with rival airlines on similar routes (I.E Charging the same, or less, and still making a profit due to reduced aircraft operating costs)

This is why you don't see LCC's flying DC9's going head to head with LCC's flying 737NG's for example

Africa being Africa.

Let them close shop. It sucks for the people that really had no other option, but like the voting system everyone gets to share what the majority voted for.

Quite disingenuous for her to say that the employees are the one who are going to cause SA to close when it was the government's inefficiency in appointing unqualified people to run the airline that caused this situation.

I am in no way supporting the unions but they do have a point, the problem is that no one party is going to come out of this unscathed.

I feel for the employees but not the powers that be at SAA.
That may be the case but the employees also benefited and at least a thousand of them do not belong and should not have been there in the first place. Just like with Eskom overstaffing to offset job losses is resulting in inefficiency. Job losses resulting from workers and unions keeping the ANC in power. So I don't have any sympathy with them as they brought this situation on themselves voting Zuma into power not once but twice and then voting for the same circus to try to fix it.

Solidarity isn't taking part in the strike. Take a look at the demographics and voter base of the strikers vs non-strikers.

Wrong, they survive on the goodwill of the taxpayers and the spendthrift approach of their commie masters, the anc who just dish out money as if they are made of it.....well Jim boy, you are about to get a right royal shock to your arrogance and gimme attitude, because the taxpayers have about had a belly full of your axis of evil with the anc thugs and incompetents!

The anc have run out of money and I suggest, for a change, that your union and members step up and invest YOUR capital if you want to dictate terms to SAA and their tax paying shareholders, and pay your way in our economy and contribute / invest for a change.... South Africa and the world does not owe you and your thugs a living.....got it?

Another ANC achievement ! With the mentality of always begging and getting , this is the result. Now go on and demand you starvation too ! That is in the pipeline.

Reading some of these comments, I suppose everyone that works at SAA is fat, lazy and incompetent...

I just so happen to work for SAA. I do not belong to a trade union. I have never and will never strike. In the last ten years I went without increase four times. I turned down two job offers because I have that **** called loyalty.
My department went from 5 people (one manager, two developers, one system analyst and one business analyst) to just me since 2015. I have been on after hours' standby 24*7 since May 2015.
But because of everyone at SAA is fat, lazy and incompetent I deserve to lose my income! Thanks for that.

You also voted for Zuma, don't ever forget that.

On a more serious note, are you not part of the bargaining unit? You mos get the salary increment they get regardless that you are not part of the union, so why didn't you get an increase for ten years?

Doesn't sound like a Zuma voter.
Does it even matter? He works for an SOE so it means he is fat, lazy, incompetent and unqualified, he only got the job because a cousin is a cadre and he sorted him out.

Is that not how things work around here?

The problem is if she does sell, they'll bypass the offers from all the top world airlines and prob give it to Air China so they can get the pass-back cash around the corner...

Nobody said that everyone at SAA is fat, lazy and incompetent. Just like Eskom it has become bloated. That's when a business becomes inefficient and incompetent and workers start sitting around doing nothing. Solidarity understands the direness of the situation why they aren't striking. Unfortunately a few will now also suffer because of the many.

Sadly, the few billion that SAA needs to stay afloat is a piss in the ocean compared to the hundreds of billions wasted by Eskom. And then the tens of billions wasted by PRASA. And, what is really farked up, I am sure i am forgetting multi-billions elsewhere. SABC?

I would rather take R5billion or so to set up a scorpions type unit again, a dedicated judiciary, and a very special jail for all the looters.

SAA is bankrupt, you have to pay someone to take it.
