SABC acting COO resigns

The SABC has announced that its acting chief operations officer (COO) and technology group executive, Dr Craig van Rooyen, has resigned.

Van Rooyen reportedly resigned from his position due to personal reasons, and he is set to leave the public broadcaster on 9 September 2019.

More and more SOE C-level execs are simply giving up. I wonder where the fault lies? Some serious introspection is required here from Pravin Gordhan.

I think the task is just too daunting considering the environment you work in. I think most execs know what needs to be done, but the political minefield which awaits you when trying to do those things are tremendous.

Agree, and that is exactly why I say that the minister of SOEs needs to do some soul-searching. The classic maxim is "employees leave managers, not companies". Transposing that to the SOE situation, the "manager" is the minister, and what he (and his political masters) are expecting isn't rational or sustainable.
