SABC wants TV licence price increase

The SABC wants to increase South Africa's TV licence fee as one of several interim measures in a turnaround plan to become financially sustainable over the next few years.

During a briefing to Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) last week, the public broadcaster revealed it would request the hike from the communications department.

Typical cadre mentality at work, only 20% of the population pay TV license fees at all, Lets hit them with higher prices. I haven't has a TV in decades, still get hounded every year to pay a license fee for the TV I had back in the day. Wonder if government has ever considered that when it went rogue, it automatically gave the voter the right to do that same thing.

0/x = 0

Maybe the Minister of Education can launch an equiry to explain that changing X makes no difference if you are collecting zero Rands from the South African citizen to begin with.

They should take it from their SMS spamming budget. I will never buy a TV license again. The need for TV’s without antennas is going to go through the roof.

I really wish they would stop putting analogue tuners into TVs but it seems like any TV without a tuner is considered a computer monitor by SARS and subject to much higher import duties than normal TVs.

more expensive will increase sales??????

learn something new everyday..... :p

It's like shooting a dead horse after flogging it and hoping it comes back to life. But let them increase it, all it's going to do is make their balance sheet look even worse than it already does and hopefully hasten it's inevitable shutdown.

Tsek.

So... according to them it's people who paid from day 1. Then it must be a lot of dead people paying.
