SABC cuts 400 jobs

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) announced that it will cut up to 400 jobs - which is 200 fewer than the 600 it was previously considering retrenching.

The public broadcaster said it has exhausted all other options, and it has to take this step to ensure sustainability going forward.

A start at least, next step to "entirely can" and shift to something not requiring me to pay a stupid fee annually for something I don't use or benefit from would be first prize.

35 days of leave. 30 days of sick leave per year. WTF.
i wonder how sweet the retrenchment packages will be, most work places give 1 weeks pay per year, i reckon SOE's will probably give 1 month per year

The party is over. South Africa can't afford to sponsor money wasting SOE's anymore. Tax payer money finished.

The SABC has a ton of contracted (not necessarily full-time) employees. On linked-in, there are for instance 4800 people listing themselves as working for the SABC currently.

What difference will 400 make? They need to fire 70-80% to get to competitor standards.

Absolutely no to cuts! They should wait for their TelkomOne streaming service to take off, i foresee big revenue stream incoming when such innovation giants as Telkom and SABC come together to bring revolutionary service to our lives.

True. A pity that even with all the staff bloat they have such poor revenue collection, what exactly is all this dead wood doing? Stuffing their pockets at the staff canteen?

And it won't be 400 either, they already have plans to reduce the figure to 230:
In addition, there are approximately 170 vacant positions that will be available for employees to apply for which provides the potential of further reducing the number of affected employees to 230.

It started out as 600, then 400, then 230. And in the end, it won't be any, just more bailouts from the taxpayers.

All these jobs the anc created to boost the figures is going to byte them in the @rse.

Every department in or under the guvment is overloaded with usless wage grabbers draining the economy of a future.

Over 40% of every rand collected in taxes goes to these fvckers doing nothing but stealing the 60% thats left after paying wages snd salaries.

Sorry but I have little to no sympathy as the joyride comes, hopefully, to an end.

Boo-hoo. Time to go on strike and demand wages be tripled. Fight against the white monopoly capital running the SABC :ROFL:

Using ANC economic logic they should be hiring. Simply employ 300,000 TV viewing assistants and charge them a licence fee. Financial problems solved.
