Cape Town - SABC Acting Chief Operating Officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng has expressed shock over the fire which ripped through its studios in Auckland Park on Wednesday night, destroying the set of popular SABC3 soap Isidingo.

Speaking to SABC2's Morning Live, Motsoeneng said that the SABC were not financially prepared for the the setback.

"As SABC we are very shock[ed]. As you know, I mean, we financially, we are not sound, this is something we don't know how to handle - but I'm sure we will get there."

"Nobody has been injured. The loss of sets and equipment will total millions, but there is no need for panic. The SABC is operational, SABC1, SABC2 and SABC3 are all broadcasting; there has been no break in transmission. And everything was insured. In the morning we will go and have a look and be able to check and see after the fire is out, what the true extent of the damage is.

They still don't know how to handle the matter? Why have you got the job my man?

Sell some of those expensive cars and let go of some other corporate luxuries. Then you'll be financially sound.

Apparently they have about six weeks worth of episodes? So them housewives are covered for now.

They will have to stretch it out a bit. So instead of the typical 15 minutes of advertisements in a 30 minute South African show, they will have to run 20 minutes of ads.

Hmmm, I wonder if they'll hire a place for a type of transitional episode and then continue to use the burned down set for Isidingo - The Aftermath. Post-apolcalyptic soap opera; has this been done yet? :D

See this as a good thing as your mother can now be on the road to recovery.

LOL

Yip don't they have insurance, I used to insure ISCOR's, Telkom and SA Post Office, surely the SABC has insurance and PS BY THE WAY GOOD CORPORATE GOVERNANCE INCLUDES A DISASTER RECOVERY PLAN ---- Bad management but that's just typical isn't it!!!

Anyone remember how creepy it was that Isidingo went with that one main actress even months after she had died in a car wreck?
