SABC gets R2.1 billion bailout

The embattled South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will receive a multi-billion rand lifeline from government, says communications minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams.
 
I wonder how all those who paid their TV license feel now. They just paid double. Once with the fee and another from their taxes.
 
WTF, why couldn't they just let it die a "dignified" death. Or switch it off for a bit at least to see if anyone actually notices.

I'm sure we all aware that bailout only covers salaries for 2months, o yes and bonuses, December around the corner, sabc staff are some of the highest paid individuals, paid in full even if the company is bankrupt
 
It's just the way the ANC does business, like upping the coal price then demanding it should come down again lol, no forward thinking or planning. Just reacting by spending taxpayer money on their multitude of crises..
 
This plus the coal suppliers telling Eishkom to go take a flying leap = Downgrade coming soon.

Government money is a euphemism for taxpayer:
The embattled SABC will receive a multi-billion rand lifeline from government taxpayers, says communications minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams.

In a presentation on Friday Ndabeni-Abrahams said that government would immediately (on Monday) transfer R2.1 billion of taxpayer money to SABC as part of a short-term turnaround plan.

not exactly, TV license was supose to be for helping the SABC, funding the SABC so the company can source watchable shows which will generate advertising revenue, this bailout which is our tax money is to pay the salary and ensure bonuses are paid out in time for Christmas, trust me when I tell you not a single person at the SABC knows what's trending in TV world and the shows that will attract advertises, it's basically your tax is for the enormous sabc salary bill, look at previous news 24 articles which clearly provide an idebth description of the unnecessary people employed at sabc and how much the salary bill is at end of month, you will be shocked at how enormous the salary bill is even though sabc generates zero income.
 
She said that an additional R1.1 billion will be transferred once the national broadcaster meets a number of preconditions as set by the National Treasury.

So the R2.1b was money for nothing and chicks for free: no preconditions attached to the R2.1b, just money down the SABC drain.
 
Maybe for there 2 billion, they could get a CEO that has completed matriek.
 
A previous board chairman was literally blind. Like wrap your head around that. A blind person leading the SABC.

I can see that happening again, too bad the old CEO can't... because HE IS BLIND MWAHAHAHA!!!
