SABC has started testing its iPlayer

That’s how you set up people for failure with those headlines

Plaatjes explained that the new channels would also be available on SABC’s online streaming platform.
I'm curious what the new channels will be? Oh well, at least they've finally realised to go digital.

Even etv has gone that route by now:

BBC had their iPlayer first...surely there's a copyright infringement here?

Anyways, cannot wait to NOT stream anything to do with SABC. Question: With them moving to a more digital environment, do I still need a TV license if I have no intention of getting a set-top box?

Do you remember them wanting to have everyone that owns a cellphone and computer to pay tv-license. Pretty sure this half-assed player is a step towards that. As they can now claim that you have access to their content and thus, need to pay. My thoughts on why this thing was developed so quickly after those plans was "laid to rest".

The new channels slogan should be "low cost bullshit when you least expect it"

I mean... usually I'd say it's a step in the right direction... but... it's the SABC and therefore this will fail.

Make is subscription. If you pay a TV license you have access to it, if you dont then you wont. As simple as that? Isnt it like 20-30pm for watching SABC? So TV license is like yearly subscription or you can pay monthly. Similar to Netflix and Showmax.

SABC will never agree to that. They want as many people as possible to pay that TV license.

Huh?? Had to quickly check it wasn't April 1st.

Why would they introduce a subscription model when it more effort to implement and it goes against trying to charge the whole population for TV license.

No license.........just the so called household tax that these muppets want to implement in place of the license, for which "EVERY" household will supposedly be billed.

They have a kick ass name for this.................... "People's Opulent Everyday Stream"
