I think that the SABC should shut down this venue because of the rampant racism that is exhibited here on both sides, black and white!

And yet you decide to ignore the positive comments on the very same forum - so no - freedom of speech should not be curtailed because of your own bias.

However, should you feel they should shut down their forums perhaps you would be better off campaigning there.

It is amazing how much we know about a wide variety of things, perhaps

it's time we have a serious look at oursselves.

We all originate from Africa, our genes are 99.9... similar and no one has

more or less right to claim anything based on history, one can not judge

the tv, but once remarks as described are made i may assume other people

Why does someone spend so much time demeaning the country of their birth? You left voluntarily in 1988 - long before any soothsayer's writing on the wall - so you really have no basis for comparison. It really is quite pathetic.

Yup I agree. If we can't actually keep people from thinking things that we don't like(yet) we should at least be able to keep them from expressing their thoughts. Or maybe if we can stop them saying what they think, they'll stop thinking what we don't want them to think.
Our right not to be offended is the most basic of human rights. If we have to silence everyone who may have something to say that might be offensive to someone, then so be it.

I think it's shocking and in fact nothing more than hate speech from both sides. I followed that particular forum for a bit and was extremely shocked at both sides having a hateful go at each other. If this is the true feelings of people in South Africa, then every one of you are ****ed. Bwana: he was speaking of the SABC forum, not this one. Perhaps you should have a gander and see what the ruckus was about? Anyone harboring those kind of thoughts towards his fellow man can and will one day explode, and if not contained, such an "explosion" will be extremely tragic.

Of particular concern to me was this uttering:

Freedom of speech is not the freedom to say nice things. Let people say what they want to say. Even so-called hate speech. Freedom to say unpopular and unpleasant things is at the core of a free society. If you don't like what is being said you can argue against it.

For all those advocating censorship and the curtailment of free speech will you feel the same way when it is your voice that is stifled?

You have to be very careful when you start being subjective because restoring the ideal is often harder than restricting it in the first place.
 
Spewing hate is one thing, incitement to rob and murder is another altogether.

When is threatening the wellbeing of people simply freedom of speech? Even America - that superior propagator of Freed of Speech censors "Hate Speech", and IMHO rightly so. Giving a step by step recommendation on how to snub and kill a white person is just not on. Imagine the outcry if this was a step by step on how to snub and kill a Black man.
 
@kingmonty you're right that **** is scarey, especially if who ever wrote it is serious(I have my doubts).

I fell into this trap of freaking out about "hate speech" not so long ago with the whole Loose Cannon debacle. The reason Loose Cannons satire works though is because it takes what some idiots believe and amplifies it to a point where when you get the joke you see the how ridiculous these hatefull attitudes really are.

Real hate speech is the result of fear and misunderstanding, if we disallow it we don't address these, we just ignore them. Also don't ignore those posts that are anti-hate and discrimination thats something positive that has come from allowing people to express their vitriol.

Dear sir (the man writing the previous message); you seem racist, and it is indecent. It is no true (more precisely it is false) to write statement of the kind" Black QI is aroud 70". You have not rigorous proof stipulated that " Black QI is at most 70 and White QI is at least 130". You are a miserable racist, and your statement about Black QI's is clearly false, and therefore, we reject it.
