Well I don't want anything for free, from anybody, other than benefits I get in return for fair taxes (though that's not free is it...) and whatever anybody wants to gift me with no strings attached. Yet I see very little in return for the massive amounts of taxes I pay, and hardly anything anybody gifts me has zero strings attached.

So we can all dream, I suppose.
 
There's only one problem. SARS is not designed for collecting taxes from households. SARS collects taxes from individuals and juristic entities such as companies, trusts, etc. The only government organizations that even keep a database of households in the country are municipalities, so the only realistic way of collecting a household levy is through the municipal taxation system. And given the dire state of most municipalities I don't see that happening anytime soon. So yeah, don't get too excited, this ain't going to be happening for a long time, if ever.

2x levies that went that way is the Fuel Tax and RAF. It gets increased as they want it and turns effectively into a tax on its own.

The difference is that the fuel levy only applies to people who buy fuel. The SABC essentially wants to charge its levy just for being alive.
 
I won't be paying that either, and if I do, I will be getting that money back another way. Government has become as they used to say "to big for it's britches" and needs to be slapped back into place.

Government rules at out leisure, we do not serve it.

This has a similar flaw like the NHI . I have 10 family members , i pay for all of them to be on medical aid and they all don't work. So now I just pay for myself for NHI and they get it for free

The government of national unity we have been lumped with isn't much brighter then the ANC on their own were. The DA especially has played its surprise card,... I wasn't surprised or amused.
 
When I see these articles all I can think is that the SABC don't believe their content is worth R22 per month and people won't pay that for a subscription so they have to force people to pay through legislation.

100% agreed..

Also there are immense legal hurdles for a municipality to collect a tax on behalf of a national entity.

Assuming everything was legally right for it to happen it will take 3-5 years. For them to amend the MFMA, you can tack another 15 years onto that time frame.

Shacks don't get rates bills.

Every system they want to implement is designed to pull money from the few to give to the masses to ensure votes .

The ones they want to pay can't just hide or not pay while the rest have no address, no verifiable income or anything but will reap the benefits.
