SABC to go digital

I am excited. Truly.

Riaan Cruywagen is going to look STUNNING in digital!

And Noot vir Noot is going to sound better than ever!

Sarcasm aside, Noot vir Noot and Riaan Cruywagen are the best the SABC has, they'd better look after them!

How about less yada yada, and more ching ching.

Ill believe this, when I see it.

Hopefully this means more targeted channels.

It is great news for local directors and actors. They will have more channels and thus more opportunity to have their shows aired. I know a few actors who worked in pretty high quality local series which have never even been seen because there simply wasnt room for them. With more channels, this means they will finally be given the opportunity they deserve.

OK
Finally, when I go visit my family I don't have to watch snowy TV.
They still using bunny aerials...Ugh.
That's probably the only advantage unless they start improving their programming.

*RANT*
I love me my cartoons
But c'mon SABC 1. YOTV (or should I say YO dot TV ] ... really.
Our youth are going to grow up retarded. South African children programming really needs a make-over.
Our youth are our future, don' feed them such garbage.

Great point, we often forget who this affects, not only consumers, but tv stars/producers etc too.

And yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. Something that moves so slowly (next 2 years) does not excite me...

Brilliant, I so agree with this. I can feel the intelligence being sucked out of me when I accidentally switch to SABC 1 and that crap is on. Fo Sho? :wtf: when did 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg take over the SABC?

This will take a long while before it gets implemented because the majority of South Africans wont be able to afford the set-top boxes required.

Will they build in options for the irritating captions underneath all non-english programming? Basic option: switch it off! Better option: just change the language.

TV programing is calculated to population and not TV licence fee payers...
I have to wonder how TV programming is going to be when calculated to TV licence fee payers. What they would want to watch.
I find myself watching less and less SABC and more E-TV. I don't have dish.

I do hope the move to digital would cut out those that pirate watch TV. The more people that payed, the better the programming.
Although the ANC controlled government would make sure some sort of corruption is there to...

And those who can afford it, won't want to buy it to watch the junk on the SABC anyways.

I'll wait for the following heading before getting "exited"

SABC has gone digital!

Till then it's a pipe dream that will get crashed by greed.

But they can afford a TV? I heard that the boxes would not by that expensive. Didn;t hear the set price yet.

Its about time, The world has moved to digital and here with SABC everything you submit must be in 4:3 and on BetaCAM.

It will make the lives of filmakers so much better. maybe we can grow the industry even more.

the minister said that more local content producers were going to be needed to drive the broadcaster as “content generation is the business of the future.”

cool, now we will have multiple channels to skip over.
