hi
not sure where to post this
been using sabnzb with crystal web and nexgennews servers for the last 2-3 years without issues
for the last week or so - unable to download - i think after an sabnzb update
initially i couldn't connect to the crystal web news server - i updated my details and this was sorted
however keep getting the error with too many connections on the nextgennews servers
I've disabled the nextgennews servers but it only downloads for a few minutes then grinds to a halt
any ideas or alternatives please?
thanks

Well they just had new news servers or dns pointers put in - now news1.crystalweb.co.za points to news.is.co.za and news.crystalweb.co.za points to a unique address in the UK somewhere (I reverse dns'ed and it appears to be unique)

Best bet is to ask support for new login details.

That being said, I get a whole lot of missing parts for articles older than 10 days on the "premium" news.crystalweb.co.za server :/

thanks i did get new login details and the premium server seems to be working
trying nzbget now and its working, albeit slowly for the last two hours or so
lost my nextgennews login details so need to get those again
still think maybe a sabnzb setting has been corrupted...

any recommendations for news servers?

There is a bug in SABNZB that we've identified recently over the last few weeks, which causes this... Under certain circumstances, SABNZB pauses the downloader threads when PAR data is loaded into the queues to be downloaded for recovery. The download threads never comes out of the paused state until SABNZBD is restarted.

We have reported it to SABNZBD and we are working with them for a fix. Only SABNZBD with the issue, and glad to know it's not only NGN affected.

I have been using nextgenn as my primary server on SABnzb for a long time as well. Recently I have had a lot of incompletes on brand new episodes. Have to do a lot of topping up off of torrents.

Just FYI guys.

We have now made contact with the lead developers of SAB, and we are working closely with them to get SAB to better handle the errors. Just some additional information:

It is in fact the decoders in SAB that crashes (due to CRC errors). SAB v2.0.0 (Beta I believe) has had the decoder re-written from scratch, and from reports that SAB received from other users, v2.0.0 does apparently resolve this pausing issue.

We've been advise to suggest to all our users with the issue to please upgrade SAB to at least v2.0.0 or better. Whether you'll experience the issue or not, will depend on the NZB, and how the content has been encoded prior to uploading to usenet.

SAB does agree, their decoder hasn't changed for a very, very long time. It's something that changed in the way that newer NZBs are uploaded to Usenet, which the old decoder doesn't like.

Personally I do most of my stuff with a seedbox with torrents. The odd thing I can't find or that which is not seeded on private trackers then I get off news. I've used block accounts from newsdemon for a long time and their completion of >500 day articles is top notch.

I've got friends on nextgen and they swear by them too so either provider should do well for you really.

Can you perhaps shed some light all the recent incomplete downloads off of your server. I have used you for a long time as my only server, but had to revert back to IS again. Obviously the connection to IS is very slow which is a pain. But brand new episodes that fail off your server completes off IS.

Anyone else having problems with older episodes ? by older i mean few days, weeks maybe .
I have a Sonarr -> Sabnzb - > nextgennews setup

We've had issues with articles being received from peers somehow ending up to be corrupt again. It's very intermittent and only happens for short periods of time (but during those short periods, hundreds of thousands of articles are received). It seems to be load related, but we haven't found the root cause of it.

SAB crashed when certain unicode characters was received in UTF-8 strings where it was not expected (notably in the =yend line. This is a SAB bug), and has been patched in SAB's decoders. That being said, it seems that this was not the only cause of problems.

We did implement fixes in our servers whereby we now validate the CRC of every single article containing yEnc (binary) data as they come in, which pretty much ensures that we won't ever be experiencing an issue similar to this in the future. SAB developers was kind enough to assist with tracking the issues down, and we use SAB's own verification libraries to do the validation too.

The fix went live on the morning of the 7th of April (last week Friday), and to date I haven't yet had a failed download personally. Nor are we aware of any clients experiencing issues with content newer than the the 7th.

Older content may still be subject to CRC issues. We only validate new content coming in, not existing content going out. We are however working on new server software which will work both ways.

If you can send us the NZB, we can manually remove the content at fault which should resolve the problems you're experiencing. We can't unfortunately manually validate a few billion files consisting of close to 1PB in storage, it will take weeks, if not months, to complete.

Do you guys get regular boxing events on nzb? This is the only thing that is not consistent with torrents.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Been having problems with SABNZB and Usenetbucket over the last few weeks... too many connections error messages, and just refusing to download most of the items.

So I can renew again without worrying that it will be a waste of money? I really prefer your speeds to IS, although off of their servers I never have any fails.

Yep, and drop us a note when you did so that we can give you something for the pain :whistling: We are 'junk status' after all...

Still doing some minor tweaks and optimizations, but we're pretty much there. Personally, I get perhaps 1 out of 50 downloads that fail currently.

I've just renewed and am testing as we speak. Getting good stable speed ave. 985 KB/s

Waiting for completion of course.

Done and dusted. 950 KB/s average

Let's hope this is the re-start of a beautiful friendship...

I'm also on UsenetBucket - no problems with any of the downloads here.
