We have a really, really old pc that the powers that be, are stalling on upgrading...

I was wandering, whats the easiest way to sabotage the motherboard and/ or cpu so that its not as obvious as dropping it out the window or pouring coffee in the cdrom drive ?

Something that the tech's wont be able to trace and replace that easily either.

Any ideas ??

DON't DO THIS!!!

I would simulate a surge...

Get excessive power to run through the PSU.

If you have an onboard modem this would be easier (otherwise an ethernet network cable will do). Take a regular RJ-11 phone cable (or RJ45 ethernet cable) and cut it in half. Strip the protruding wires and attach them (at random should work) to the Live and Neutral prongs of a regular household plug. Plug the RJ-11/45 into your pc and the powerplug into the wall (making sure the plug socket is off), turn on your pc, make sure it isn't on any conductive surface, and then go flip the wall socket switch. ZAP.

Looks like lightening damage. Just make sure you flip the switch off before touching your pc :D

I won't recommend it - very dangerous. You could lose your work, your life, the building can go up in flames, etc.

A safe method would be is to take the HDD out, drop it repeatedly, and put it back. Repeat until the HDD is dead. Problem is you will leave evidence (dust removed etc).

LAWL, ok here is some advice, please don't try this at home, viewer discretion is advised: take one standard RAM module, insert it upside down (it wont fit, but force it in without damaging it), turn on the PC (dont look at the mainboard if you are not wearing your safety goggles :)) ther will be a puff of smoke, turn the PC off. This will blow your RAM IC, the mainboard must be replaced (and as i take it, its an old PC? so the whole pc must be replaced). Did this once (not on purpose) and they said power surge.

My personal advice: DONT DO IT ---->>> Upgrade ;)

wow....

don't mess with electricity, you'll hurt yourself most likely. Just take the side of the case off of twist one of the caps off the motherboard....

BTW. Getting caught doing any of this will get you fired.

Change the Irq settings for your Harddrive controller, the motherboard will not be able to detect your harddrive!!

@antowan
Why'd you remove that big "tutorial"? It was hilarious! I typed my previous message while it was still there and when the page reloaded it was gone!

there is one sure way, build up enough static electricity,i mean alot and start prodding the motherboard with your fingers,Lay on a cushion and dont touch the carpet,nowprod,prod...prod....yes thats it now shuffle your feet on the carpet again, now prod..prod damnit,no no,take that finger out of the power supply, not like that you fool.Right repeat...until satisfactory...

I'd just try to shortcircuit things on the motherboard while its running (While not getting zapped). Or stop the CPU fan temporarily. Or disconnect a soldered point with a side cutter. It can't be that difficult man.

And yes damaging company property can start an epic *****storm.

lol how on earth to you insert a ram module upside down?
With a steady hand and determination.:D

Surely just destroying the OS will be enough?

Assuming it is M$
1. Delete somethings from c:\Windows
2. let them reinstall
3. Repeat from 1 until they crack

IT okes only do that twice before saying "the PC is fscked - time for a new one"
