Today the DA Youth will report the South African Students Congress (SASCO), the student affiliate of the ANC, to the Human Rights Commission for a poster erected on Wednesday at the Cape Town and Bellville campuses of the Cape Peninsula of Technology (CPUT).
The grossly racist poster states, among other things, “white pigs to leave South Africa a long time ago because theirs is to exploit us (sic)” and “we have long foreseen that you want to control our country again, that is why as SASCO we support and sing with our President Malema when he sings “kill the boer” kill the “racist” (sic)”.
They also go on to call international students ‘cockroaches’, a derogatory and dangerous word associated with genocide. It goes without saying that these statements are an overt incitement to violence and have absolutely no place in our constitutional democracy.
If these are the kind of young leaders that the ANC is grooming then South Africans should be extremely concerned. On Wednesday the ANC agreed not to appeal the decision ruling the singing of ‘shoot the boer’ as hate speech as they acknowledge that the song is not appropriate in the current South African context. If these are indeed truthful sentiments, the ANC must take immediate steps to distance themselves from SASCO and to harshly discipline those responsible.
