SACO Poster

You only need read the language style in the poster to see that someone tried hard to sound like SASCO or some other youth organisation. Someone who obviously has better command of English trying to dumb down and failing miserably.

I'll see if I can get a hold of the ANCYL handout and post it here. It featured poor use of the english language as well.

Have you heard these revolutionary types speak? They regularly make themselves sound stupid by using fancy words. Your own signature is a pretty good example of bad english.

http://www.dayouth.org.za/da-youth-reports-sasco-to-the-human-rights-commission/ DA Youth reports SASCO to the Human Rights Commission
Today the DA Youth will report the South African Students Congress (SASCO), the student affiliate of the ANC, to the Human Rights Commission for a poster erected on Wednesday at the Cape Town and Bellville campuses of the Cape Peninsula of Technology (CPUT).

The grossly racist poster states, among other things, “white pigs to leave South Africa a long time ago because theirs is to exploit us (sic)” and “we have long foreseen that you want to control our country again, that is why as SASCO we support and sing with our President Malema when he sings “kill the boer” kill the “racist” (sic)”.

They also go on to call international students ‘cockroaches’, a derogatory and dangerous word associated with genocide. It goes without saying that these statements are an overt incitement to violence and have absolutely no place in our constitutional democracy.

If these are the kind of young leaders that the ANC is grooming then South Africans should be extremely concerned. On Wednesday the ANC agreed not to appeal the decision ruling the singing of ‘shoot the boer’ as hate speech as they acknowledge that the song is not appropriate in the current South African context. If these are indeed truthful sentiments, the ANC must take immediate steps to distance themselves from SASCO and to harshly discipline those responsible.

1988-1992.

I was there in 93-95 ... Pretty much the same story. Sasco full of ****, and the engineers looking for ways to actually get some studying done without being disturbed...

I don't want to stir, but how about something like "DA Youth asks SASCO if it was actually them"?

Phone their media contacts and ask them how sure they are that that is a SASCO poster....

The bad english in the poster is clearly contrived.

At the very minimum they'd have got the phonetics of "tjatjarag" right.

I remember "Sports Days" when the protestors would be dancing around on the commons and the cops would be standing off to the side watching, and the Engineering faculty was on top of the Science Building singing "Die Stem" :D

Ok, given, I guess they wouldn't start something if they weren't certain it was SASCO. But still, this poster borders on the unbelievable (again, even for SASCO).

Im with you there. I have asked a couple of times if they are sure that this is not right wing trolling trying to polarize people. Havent got a reply yet.

I still think SASCO posters can be judged like kids used to (still do?) when checking if Nikes are fake. Just as authentic Nike shoes must have some number of Nike symbols, authentic SASCO posters must contain the word “FREE” at least some number of times. :D
