SACS Connection

I could really use a ping like this too! Playing on the American servers would be a blast! I am not sure when this will be implemented but I am sure it is on the cards for all ISP's!

@AfriNatic any updates? I see other ISPs are already carrying out tests on their networks.

We have been making changes to international traffic, this has reduced the ping to some services. :) Our Network Team hasn't disclosed anything about the new pipe, but once it is up and running I will let you know. :)

Any news from Afrhost on this? I may consider moving to Cool Ideas

What other isps use SACS?

There is a small ISP in the Cape called Cape Connect that seem to be connected, quite ridiculous that a ISP the size of Afrihost are sleeping on this one

I think this is more hype than anything. What is in South America you wanna connect to?
And @Gamers - The people there are asleep, or at work, while you wanna play with them. So that wont help you, either.
And latency to the US South will only be improved, whereas everything you are excited for is in other regions of the US.

Initially a lot of people, including myself, got really excited when we saw 63ms from angola to fortaleza and hoped that we would get 100ms and lower to the brazil region on games where we don't have local servers (e.g. AWS and Azure hosted servers). However, that idea quickly died when i realized that most servers are hosted in sao paulo which is 4000km away from fortaleza and therefore that makes the latency identical to london (140ms). With regards to US latency, its now possible to get between 170 and 190ms to US east servers. So yeah it was definitely hyped, but at the very least it does give you options of now playing on brazil or US east with latency that we're used to getting to EU.

If you're playing a popular game, there will always be people online no matter the time of day.

I agree with your points here, and its nice to be "closer" to an AWS somewhere. But I think once Azure and AWS move into ZA, we'll see the big game providers roll out over that, and we'll get our own game hubs in NAPAfrica somewhere.

If we'd actually be able to fill them enough is another question entirely.
