Sad reality

Dont want to elaborate too much but was involved in a certain GVT agency and the people that worked there (black) behaved like kids. We were there to do a specific job and when they were told what they were doing was wrong, it almost always turned into a race issue.

I am generalising and it was not all the people just a large percentage.

Nothing wrong with generalising there. I have seen something like this too with some government department. However, it was one person. People should take advice for what it is and not try to use "race" as an escape goat.

a) Names are nothing new in businesses, especially for new employees.
b) Your original post used one anecdotal incident to make a blanket accusation of racism in the workplace.
c) My example of hijackers is just as valid as yours.

Try and keep track, I don't want to have to do your job for you. :D

a) I wasn't referring to name-calling
b) I didn't use one anecdotal incident - it was certainly not an anecdote - to make a blanket accusation of racism ( blanket accusation of racism: from where you stand yes )
c) I don't follow your logic on your example of hijackers - maybe because it doesn't make sense in my framework of formal logic ;)

:) Have fun, if you're going to see things selectively, then I'm not going to bother taking this discussion seriously.

Au contraire monsieur, if anyone is seeing things selectively, then it's you. Anyway, wise decision tnot to continue this discussion; not only is it getting tired but is it also going around in circles.

Can we agree that we differ in points of view and just leave it there ?

That's pretty much what I was doing. Arguing to the death doesn't do anything for me. :) *Ritual combat! Face down your justice debate! One to be standing a winner is!*

Want an apple? :D

Hi VernD,

It always saddens me to hear these stories. It reminds me how far we have to go as a nation. Unfortunately, there will always be rotten eggs, and I suppose the only way to deal with it is to be secure enough within yourself to be able to realise that the problem doesn't lie with you, but rather with the other people.

I certainly can't say that this is always the case, but in my experience, people respect ability, and the one way to get people to respect you is to rise to the top, by hard work and diligence. If people realise that one is excellent at one's job, then criticism becomes meaningless, and critics come across as being spiteful and jealous.

Best of luck to your relative. I hope he is able to rise above it.
