The culture of poor discipline and zero accountability starts right at the top of the ANC though so it is only a natural progression that this same culture will spread through and infect each and every government institution to varying degrees, military most notably as that is where unquestionable discipline/responsibility/accountability is not negotiable.
The rot continues unabated.
 
And most African dictators seem to come from ill-disciplined army ranks. Wait till we have to fight a real war and that will seperate the real soldiers from the pretenders.
 
Didn't Shabir land up in the poo for making a bit of profit on 7 (diesel class) subs that are meant to protect us from Bob? Everybody knows Bob wants to invade us so he can have our electricity and SUPER fast broadband products.

Isn't the sole purpose of a security force to protect its country and citizens, both in times of peace and conflict? Otherwise our government has just wasted huge sums of money on subs and fighetr jets because we have no enemies. Peace keeping aside as all our military resources aren't used for peace keeping efforts.

I may be wrong here,but i think this money would have been better spent on infrastructure like Escom,Roads,water and sanitation.
 
Interesting article. Agree wholeheartedly. Shouldn't be a problem for much longer, since even back in 96 70% of them had aids.

I am one of those ex-pf members who left after the 94 amalgamation of all the 'armed' forces. Couldn't stand to see what had happened to the mag.

I remember the day I decided to leave. Spent the whole day teaching 5 newly integrated medic CSMs how to correctly insert a drip. They stuck each other farked up until they got it right. Tried the next day to see if they remembered anything. Not a thing. Time to go...

I work with an ex PF member who left for similar reasons. Says he couldn't stand seeing the place falling apart. If troops for example didn't want to march they just sat there and didn't budge.

And I'm another. I got the hell out in 92 though, things were already falling apart then.
What is bugs me is that we have Numbnuts Shilowa trying to justify bigger budget for defense, (and it'll probably happen irrespective of whether it's necessary or not), yet our "soldiers" probably couldn't fight thier way out of a wet paper bag in their current state :mad:

WTF?!?!?! in a real armed forces those lil buggers would have the k@k bliksemed out of them... and they'd deserve it.

I heard that at any time 62% is unfit for duty,23% on light duty,and the rest available, but deployed in Darfur.

No need to worry,though.
It is not as if we have any enemies to fight.
So i suppose it doesn't really matter, does it?
 
Im glad im not part of THIS f'n army...We use to k@k off back in the

day...Must tell you THIS story...a friend of mine went to 5 sai ( ladysmith

kzn ) a while ago...Now, seeing he was in the army as well, its instinct

to "stretch" when you see a higher rank. It so happens that my mate got

there and as he aproached the guardroom, he saw a Lieutenant aproaching.

As trained he did the normal "stretch" ( as he didnt wear a baret ). Next

moment, here comes a "troep"...walking casually and then suddenly "Howzit

Lieut"....

The guy said he nearly had a heart attack. In our day you would've
