Safe temps

My CPU (I think it's my CPU, SpeedFan doesn't specify) reached about 65 running SuperPI. And about 50 when under no load.

If it's a prescott, then that perfectly normal and safe. However, 26? Either he doesn't have a prescott, or his temp readings are "crazy low" ;)

My prescott 3,4 64bit ran at 51 when idling. My core2 now runs at 31 at stock and 34 at load :)

What's the safe temp for my mobo please? I'm playing COD4 and the mobo is recording between 50-55 degrees, when idle it's @ 48-49 degrees. The asus probe has the mobo's default temp set @ 40 degrees !!! Whereas the probe has the Q6600 default @ 65 degrees.

Thanks in advance :)

Never mind what the mobo says, what does core temp say about your cpu temp ?

So ... what are unsafe temps and what kind of damage are we talking about? My old hp notebook ran very hot - 70-72 when fully loaded - but would power itself off (in a split second) not far above that. I used speedfan and set it to give me a critical alert at 73deg. That allowed me to avoid data loss ... but does running too hot damage a CPU or the mobo? That machine got hotter (and noisier with its 3 fans) as it got older.

New notebook doesn't have that problem. Yet. How careful should I be to avoid high temps?
