My safely remove hardware icon in windows 8 doesn't just show up when external devices are hooked up. It also shows my two internal drives, including the SSD which has the OS.

Is this a new feature? What is the point of it? Surely ejecting the OS drive would not be a good idea...yet the option is there to do so and I'm damn tempted to click it and see what happens :p

Tried to google an explanation but can't seem to find anything useful.

Click it, you know you want to!

It'll tell you that the drive is busy and cannot be stopped right now. There isn't even a force button.

It's just something to do with how Windows recognises removable disks, you are probably running AHCI mode on your SATA controller.

As for the external drives not being removable, probably something to do with Windows not using the write-cache on the disks anymore ( I hope )

Since we're on the topic, I just plugged an old drive into my cases sata dock on top. Was wondering if it would register as an external drive or internal but nothing happened. Have never done this before, anyone got some ideas?

Actually, first port of call should be opening it up and making sure the dock is connected to the board.
