Can anyone explain the difference between SAIX and IS. I know SAIX = Telkom, but does IS have their own backbone, if that is the case, then why do all the ISP's not go through IS?

IS do have their own backbone. SAIX additionally have access to the undersea cable to connect to the rest of the work. IS uses satellite connections to connect to the rest of the world.
No idea why IS not cheaper though

As for ISP's, well SAIX is cheaper and has lower international latency due to the undersea cable.

Main reason, all services on the local loop connects via SAIX/Telkom and IS still get billed heavily for that.

This is why its amazing that IS actually compare pricewise with SAIX, with much greater overhead costs.

Interesting.........I am suprised IS is not more expensive.......

Clipse : Is IS -> ISP part of the local loop?

No idea what that means, but IS have to pay IP connect fees like everyone else, connecting to the local loop and offering their own adsl termination.

These fees go to Telkom, and afaik doesnt include any bandwidth.
