Saix rumour

This was alluded to me as well by a Telkom rep in an email when I complained why they were not offering 10GB, 20GB and 30GB packages like Axxess and other ISP's using SAIX.

SAIX = backbone
SAIX != ISP
TelkomInternet = ISP
Axxess = ISP

etc etc

So if they had any business sense and sense of competition (hahaha, sorry, it's telkom, they don't) they'd realise it's going to kill them.

HOWEVER

I think it's in preparation for 1mbps speeds. Like I said before, Telkom has the "less for more" (where you pay more for less) mentality, and even though we'd be "pleasantly suprised" at the cost of 1mbps ADSL, I expected they'll severely cripple the cap.

But with independant ISP's like Axxess and others in the forefront, one question you have to ask yourself is, why even STAY with TelkomInternet NOW? For the same price you pay for a 3 gig account you can get a 5 gig account...

wtf mate

Will users with 2GB caps be upgraded then? For FREE must be a rumour Telscum just don’t do things like that

noone, I don't think anyone who needs more than 3GB is staying with telkom, the question is, is axxess and AYCE will still be able to offer 10-20-30GB packages in the years to come? Because if they stop offering this packages, we are back to the previous century ... or even the one before!

We can't let them do this. Hopefully it remains just that a rumour.

I dunno man.. there's just too much activity for something that's going to be phased out.. 59.co.za have just introduced a 30 gig option, axxess now have a 5 gig product, and have made absolutely no noises whatsoever about these accounts not existing any time in the near future.. I think that if there was any truth to these rumours, axxess would know about them and take the initiative to tell us. I base this assumption on their excellent track record with regards to customer service.

It also doesn't make any sense whatsoever to launch a 1MBps line with a product that only has a 3 gig cap.

BUT.. if it does turn out to be true.. damn.. I don't think I can go back to 3 gigs.. I was struggling badly when there was no other option, but now that I've tasted 10 gig (and this month 20 gig) accounts.. no man.. 3 gigs is absolutely nothing..

just phone axxess, and they said it won't affect their 30GB accounts if Telkom introduced a 3GB cap on local traffic. The guy on the other end sounded as if he though I'm crazy to even ask :-)

Ok, so the "rumour" then is that the cap is universal, by that I mean that there is now no distinction between local and intl traffic where the cap is concerned.. once you're capped, you're capped, that's it - based on the ISP package that you have.

That's not so bad.. as long as we're not restricted to 3 gigs..

Question I have on the axxess accounts - once you reach your 5 or 10 or 20 or 30Gig cap - what happens then - is your service terminated for the rest of the month or is local still available?

AYCE = Goners. You used up your quota - you're offline. Buy more.

I think axxess & others already do include local into the cap, but who cares if you have 30GB :-)

aha - from the axxess FAQ

"(Q) What happens when I reach my cap limit?
(A) Your international is slowed down but your local remains the same. This might change in August 2005."

So if tEllCrAp caps (hey that rhymes :D ) local to 3gig, would that mean that with axxess after your Int cap blows you should have another 3gig local? :confused:
